Holy Crap! The Battery is now a maintenance item!
Some of you might have seen the recall notice on the N63 engine (timing chain, injectors, etc.). At the very end was mentioned battery.
Turns out that the N63 and N63tu and I'm assuming the S63 variants now have their battery listed as a "maintenance item". Meaning that at every 2nd oil change, BMW will put a new battery in the car. Per the dealer, the running of the cooling pumps/fans after the car is shut off, is killing the battery and so as long as the car is under warranty, they will continue to change out the battery -every 2nd oil change.

My lease is about to run up, so I'm most interested in what the incentives might turn out to be.
Not too surprising on the battery thing. Last winter, when it was 15 or less around here for a long time, I had a constant battery problem, apparently related to the battery sensor not operating correctly when it's cold. Since it disabled the heater fan when it read a low battery, there's no telling what it does when any other conditions exist... |

All 90AH batteries area also being changed to 105AH ones for free with this service action.
You can get by with not changing the battery so often if out of warranty by putting the car on a proper charger every few weeks ( example Ctek charger) This will prevent it from being discharged too much.

Current oil change protocols N63tu?
Does anyone know if the oil change protocols have changed for the N63tu engine? I have a '13 650ix coupe, had my first scheduled oil change at 15,000 miles and the dealer reset my "next oil change" for another 15,000 miles. Was curious if that is correct or is it now 10,000 mile intervals as I have heard?

interesting, so the flipside of this perk is that we're supposed to change the batteries every two years once we're out of warranty now? that's kinda crappy
