Hallelujah! Another person from the UK with an M6. We are a very exclusive club! With ceramics too, which is probably the single most impressive option I've ever spec'd on a car. They're outrageously good.
Enjoy..... |

Indeed, the M6 is rare in the UK, the Gran Coupe even rarer. I think there are only about 50 in England and Ireland and 15 or so of those are press cars.

Collected the car from the dealer today!
Basic spec of the car is M6 Gran Coupe Sakhir Orange (it's not quite as bright as the photos show) with black interior Carbon Ceramic brakes Competition Pack M Multifunction seats A few other gismos! Not long after I arrived home it started pissing down, but I managed a few pictures before the heavens opened. The brake disks are massive inside the 20 inch wheels, front The quality of the interior is fantastic, leather and Alcantara everywhere. The M Multifunction seats adjust every which way including the side bolster width and the 'wings' on the head restraint. Not had any significant time to drive it yet and probably won't for a couple of weeks. First job is to give her a good detail, I asked the dealership not to clean it more then necessary to prevent swirl marks. It's a pretty long car at over 5m, about 250mm longer than my E39, and the bonnet is very long, it's a good job front PDC is standard! The DCT transmission will take some getting used to, even just pulling into the garage feels very alien at the moment, reminds me of parking in a garage when I first learnt to drive. It has 'Low Speed Assist' which causes the car to crawl forwards after you touch the accelerator, but stops when you hit the brake so it's not like a regular automatic that always crawls unless you keep your foot on the brake. This actually makes moving forwards a very small amount quite hard! You touch the accelerator, but the car is moving a bit too quickly if you are 2 feet from the garage wall, but touch the brake and it stops. No doubt there is a way to just inch forwards, it'll just take some getting used to. |

fantastic color for a m6 GC. I am jealous again.
Just watched a video about MB SL63 amg out turns a YAMAHA R1. I do believe your car also can do the same thing.

Richard, that is lovely (although I am slightly biased).
Are you really coming out of an e39 into that M6GC? If so, what a coincidence as look at what I'm currently selling What you'll no doubt find is that it's a much more detached drive compared to the e39, the body control over a bumpy back road nowhere near as compliant and it doesn't have the old-school V8 sounds. Dynamically, if anything it shows just how good the e39 is on our broken roads. Still, in most respects it'll be like stepping out of Fred Flinstones car and into the Starship Enterprise, and I concur on the quality - it is quite exceptional isn't it! So, what do you think of the brakes (which IMO is a very weak point on the e39)...worth the money? Personally, even against the advances of the Competition Pack (which rights many of the wrongs on my previous non-CP version) I think the brakes are the best option on this car. Finally, I have exactly the same problem getting it into my garage - the length pushes typical garages to their limit but you will get used to the DCT 'box's creeping function (and then marvel at it's other abilities!). |

I've not driven the car anything like enough to make a proper comparison with the E39 M5, but based on the 7 miles I've done so far in this car, which is the only competition pack and ceramic brake car I've driven) and the various test drives in the other F10/13/06 cars I'd agree with you entirely!
I'm actually keeping the M5 because I think it's so different and just not worth selling! I'm lucky that I have (just) enough room to keep it garaged. The brakes in the E39 M5 are definitely the weakest point of the car, they fade quite quickly even with spirited road use, they are prone to pad deposit build up which causes juddering and they create a lot of dust on the wheels. The disks don't last that long either, I've changed them about twice as often as in previous cars, I guess just a factor of the weight. Hopefully the Carbon Ceramic brakes will kill all those problems. My initial impression is that they have much greater feel that the regular F10/13/06 brakes, something I was not expecting. My E39 was/is very well equipped, one thing I added was the ability to show the PDC sensor distances directly on the cluster in cm, this enabled me to judge exactly the distance to the garage wall. With the F06 you get the pretty graphics, but it shows orange and beeps when there is still some distance to go. It's just a question of getting used to things, it's so different it's bound to take a few weeks. Gratuitous picture of my M5. |

Thats a nice and very late M5....owned from new? I bought my M5 as a stop gap car between my M6's (I had an early non-CP F13 before the one I have now) and it's been one of the most impressive cars I've ever had, despite it's age (although after a considerable amount of spend, with an uncompromising approach to replacing anything not perfect, it's a very good one...many these days aren't).
The brakes are like butter - I fitted new genuine discs and pads all round a few weeks ago and one return trip to Germany and they're already starting to judder - I don't think I've done more than 1500 miles since they were fitted! The ceramics in the M6 are the polar opposite, there'll be no judder from these and, unless theres exceptionally bad luck, they're supposed to last the life of the car (on road use). Theres no dust (you'll marvel at the miles you can do without a spec of dust!) and, if you look in your iDrive, you'll see that even the pads claim to have a life of 80-90k miles! I don't really want to sell my e39 but we have a M135i coming in a couple of weeks so to have three M-cars (well, kind of) between two of us is a little extravagant and unnecessary. |

Unfortunately not owned from new, only the last 5 years. It's been maintained to the highest standard, oil service at al least twice the regular interval. New rod bearings and new suspension all round at about 80K. Anything showing the slightest wear replaced (new OEM wheels, head lights, rear lights, shadow line trim, Titan line trim inside, drivers seat leather, 16:9 monitor, steering wheel, rear view mirror and a myriad small parts). Passenger side front door replaced due to rust beginning to form on the inside seam on the rear edge. Full under body WaxOyl treatment. New clutch, dual mass flywheel and prop shaft. Retrofitted double glazing, reversing camera, garage door opener, rear multifunction arm rest and Alcantara headlining all with new OEM parts. Also had the boot completely trimmed in Alcantara, the stock material is terrible!
The E39 M5 is quite an amazing car, just as at home doing a track day at Silverstone or taking my mum out for the day. As I have the space to keep it to me it makes sense to (my wife can't see it though!), if I was to sell it now it would get maybe £15K tops, I think the price of good examples will start to rise as the dross rust and are scrapped. The M6 Gran Coupe has a lot to live up to! |

New registration arrived, just missed getting it on the car from new by a few hours, so had to go through the transfer procedure. Subtle enough to go unnoticed by most people, but any F10 M5 or F06/F12/F13 M6 owner should see the relevance.
