Newbie: Considering a Used F12

Lately I've been thinking hard about stepping up to a 2013 M6 convertible: Low miles, reasonable price. As a newbie I have a few questions.

Is it common, like in the Porsche world, to have a PPI done? Is there a "standard" process that is in place for doing one on BMWs? What are some common issues that I should be looking for?

In one of the pictures in the listing there's this one. Is that Dinan tag common on M6s? There's no mention of a tune in the listing and sales folk kinda shrugged their shoulders when I asked about it. Something a bit special maybe?

2020 BMW M340xi  [0.00]
The tag means it has or had a Dinan tune installed on it.

I don't know if buying a car that was tuned for the last 4 years would be a good idea, find one that was bone stock and wait for a good deal with low miles would be my .02

I purchased a used 2013 M6 Convertible a year ago. As it was still under the factory warranty I relied on my own knowledge, an obd2 scanner, physical inspection, test drive and the carfax to make the purchase. Before the warranty expired I purchased an extended warranty from BMW. Unless you can aford expensive potential repairs, I would be wary of an M6 out of warranty.

That said, I have had one warranty service so far, leaking turbo oil lines. I also have high oil consumption which BMW USA says is allowed. I get free oil from dealer. It affects the M6s from no burning to very high. I go through two bottles a month.

The dinan tune would not be a deal breaker fro me but would merit some extra investigation. Was the previous owner just desirous of some extra power or was car tracked and abused? Go to local dealer with vin and ask to see service records. Check nav for info on former owner. A pleasant call and google search can reveal alot. My M6 was owned previously by a 70 year old Texan so I suspect he was to gentle with the car (which can lead to more oil burning, at least in theory)

Great input so far, thanks, I appreciate it. Downfourit, are you saying that M6 owners are prone to abusing their cars? Would a scan reveal any overrevs or other hooliganism?

Two owners, only 15K miles. If I pursue this car (I'm also considering 991s) will definitely ask to speak with the previous owners.

Statistically over all M6's built, nah. But you don't want to be stuck with that one M6 that was beaten up for 4 years running higher boost levels and is out of warranty is all I'm sayin

Downfourit, are you saying that M6 owners are prone to abusing their cars? No more than 911 owners do, its the luck of the draw. I would also see if the tune was BMW dealer installed. My dealer offers Dinan tunes
