Please Help??!! Scraped my mirror?!
Hey guys,
So a few days ago I was pulling my M6 out of the garage when I heard a scraping noise coming against the wooden side of my garage door. Worried I exited the car and check the right side-view mirror when low and behold, i find a small scrape on the outermost part of the mirror (PICS ATTACHED). Thankfully i didn't dent the metal or anything but i did break the paint. :mad0260: I emailed a few local BMW dealers with pictures and they all said the whole cap had to be replaced quoting me at $560 + $150 (for 1 hour of labor) = approx $700. Ironically that day I was pulling out my M6 to go test drive the 2016 C63 AMG - at the merc dealership the sales rep was kind enough to apply some rubbing compound but after a few rubs i told him to stop as i was scared it would take too much paint off the surrounding area. Anyways, has this happened to anyone before? Any advice on what i can do to mitigate the damage? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!! Thanks in advance. |

You should be able to get the mirror resprayed for a reasonable price, its gone right through the colour coat so it won't polish out I'm afraid.
There should be plenty of indy bodyshops that could do it for you? The whole unit shouldn't need replacing, BMW just love to sell us new parts. i feel your pain. I spent 2 hours cleaning the car last week for a bird to shit all over it. It was baking in the sun at work so i went to the local pressure washer to get it off. used the brush to scrub it off (stupidly) now i have hairline scratches all over my bonnet. I'm hoping it can be polished out otherwise I'm gonna have to get my wallet out at the bodyshop |

You can just replace it with CF mirror caps. Less $ than getting a whole new painted ones from BMW. If you want to keep it original, I have a Sakhir Orange one from my car. We can work out a deal, as I replaced mine with CF.

I was actually planning on getting the CF caps later next year - I already dolled out way too much on other upgrades (3M film - shutters). Smart that you kept the original caps though - I've heard dealers trying to keep them after a switch. Out of curiosity, how did you like the turnout after the switch? Do you think they look better than the originals?

Oh wow that sounds pretty aggravating lol. I honestly didn't even consider respraying as on option. The only problem I see with that is maybe a mismatch in color? I know you can get touch up paint from BMW for like $60 but I've found that the paint when applied looks completely different, as they used the same color when touching up my bumper before applying the 3M film. But it def sounds like it's worth a shot.

I would do the cf caps ... They look Awsome!!!
When I took delivery of our M6 cab last year, the pats manager popped off the alpine white ones and popped in the new ones in less than 5 min and gave me the originals back! If your were planning on swapping out to cf, I'd just do it now and not have the one cap re-painted or touched up ... Perhaps see the cost of the cf caps and get an estimate to repair the one cap You swapping out to an C63 Amg? Best of luck ... Cf or repair |

I had one of mine get popped off when a plastic bottle hit it while I was on the freeway. I called IND they ordered the part (just a cover) and painted it OEM and shipped it to me in about a week. I think $60 to paint and I think the cover was around $100.
Or you can give the local dealer $1000 to do it for you.

You should pay about $30-40 for touch up kit and fix it easily... No need to that much money unless you are willing to replace it with CF.
