Guess what guys? The dreaded Oil light came up again asking for oil exactly after 345 miles since the last top up.
Prior to that I did 1470 miles to Holland and Germany, mainly motorway miles. |

They should give you a new engine.

I would complain to BMW national. I am now on an oil consumption test for BMW to try and sort out this problem.

the question is where is that extra oil being burned? if its seeping through the cylinder wall, would it do so without producing blue smoke out the back? someone also pointed out possible turbo leak! again the dealer would have to be pushed to the brink in order to strip the engine down.

I am averaging 675-700 miles per warning, then refill one quart. No metric here.

They told me 700 miles is minimum, I was just below, plus a squeaky wheel so they are at least humoring me. Plus I have received at least 7 free bottles of oil. I just don't want this to get worse, especially as my warranty ends soon.

From what I understand you are consistently consuming more oil than BMW maximum permissible amount.
Have you had the discussion of engine replacement with BMW or your dealer yet ?

I have addressed this to my contact at BMW HQ. However they will need to be given a fair chance to at least fix the issue by further looking into the engine which will entail stripping it apart. I have found an excellent motor trade specialist solicitor who deals with Mercedes and BMW and knows them all. He also rest assured me that I have got a strong case. |

Also I have heard of a few S63TU engined cars with replacement engines and at this point I can only think they were replaced under warranty due to excessive oil consumption.

Lets hope that was the case, do you think its worth appointing this solicitor for a fee of £350?

UPDATE :
HR owen BMW who have my car for last few weeks are now replacing the rocker cover breathers which apparently has a manufacturing defect in the earlier production. This was instructed and cleared by BMW HQ as they are well aware of these issues on m5/m6. I don't know if it will solve the problem? |

Interested to know what 'early' is!
As I've said in other thread regarding high oil consumption, unless there is a significant and usually obvious fault, high oil consumption is likely to be down to the way the car is run in. These engines do NOT use a lot of oil by design, unless that design involves not running them in correctly! My M6 GC is a 63 plate, it uses NO oil at all between 10,000 mile changes, 8,5L goes in, 10,000 miles later 8.5L comes out. |

However requiring a litre at every 350 miles is not right. |

Totally agree, 1L in 1000 miles is not right, let alone 350 miles!
1L in 350 miles is not far off 2 stroke proportions of fuel : oil!! |

I think your E39 M5 should have a second filler flap next to the fuel filler flap, bit like an LPG filler, but so you can add 4L of oil with every fuel fill up!
