640d inner rear tyre wear 😮
Hi guys newbie here so go easy please. Recently bought my first BMW two weeks ago it's a F13 640d and I'm in aww. I was having a look round her at weekend and noticed that the drivers rear wheel as serious inner wear. I have read a few posts etc people saying it's down to run flat tyres and some say camber etc. anyone here point me in right direction.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
That almost looks like the tyre has been rubbing against something. Tyres on the F12/F13 series are sensitive to pressure variations, so make sure your tyre pressures are spot on. Be a good idea to also check for any play in the rear suspension joints. |

Thanks for the reply, I've only recently bought the car and I have to say I found the tyres unpressurized by around 5 psi so I'm hoping that the low pressure and the hard side wall of run flats has caused this. I have opted for a new set of normal tyres to replace these with should I still use the OEM pressures even though they aren't RFT? I think it's 2.4 bar all round |

I don't run a 640, but my guess would be tyre pressures should be the same for both normal and RFTs. Given the opportunity, I'd get a full four wheel alignment, for peace of mind if nothing else. I take it you are running the manufacturers recommended size of wheel and tyre. Opting for bigger and/or wider tyres and wheels might bring the tyre(s) into conflict with parts of the suspension, and hence the strange wear pattern. A good tyre fitter should be able to spot this.

Thanks yeah everything standard fitment wise (255/35/20F & 275/30/20R) and I'll stick with OEM pressures I will also opt for the 4 wheel alignment for piece of mind |
