Trunk won't open after long detailing

I've been detailing my car and leaving the doors and trunk open for hours at a time. Today I got the message that the battery was low, that anything using battery power would be shut down, and I should go for a drive. The battery was around 40%. So I started the car and noticed the trunk would not open. Not from the fob, the truck latch or the button inside. No clicks, no sound, no nothing. Battery is now over 70%, but trunk still dead. Top, windows, and all else works fine.

1. I would normally disconnect the negative battery cable to let things reset, but it's in the trunk. Does disconnecting the positive terminal under the hood accomplish the same thing or not?

2. What fuse controls the trunk latch and what number is it and where is it? I can't find a diagram in NewTIS and my paper diagram is in the trunk.

3. If 1 and 2 fail, what is the procedure to open the trunk on convertible? The seats don't fold down, and my arm is not long enough to reach through the ski bag to get to the emergency pull.

Thanks.

Well, I'm dumb - but y'all knew that already. Six years of ownership and I did not know there is a slider switch at the bottom front of the center console to lock out the trunk. My detailing moved it.

Sorry I’m just reading this because the valet (hotel) switch was the first thing that crossed my mind when I started reading the original post.

To others, yes, there’s a valet/hotel switch that will lock out the trunk. BMW usually puts in in either the glovebox or center console (whichever one that can be locked with the metal keyblade inside the remote fob). This allows you to secure items in the trunk when handing off your remote to a valet. They can’t use the remote fob, the interior trunk release or exterior trunk release…and can’t access the switch since it is locked and you have the metal keyblade with you.

The valet/hotel switch is S5 in the illustration below (for the F06/f12/f13):

I'm probably going to sell it soon, so the detailing was for photos. Here are four teaser shots. I always think the driver's footwell shots say as much as anything about how I generally take care of cars. I drive this car 365 in Denver and have never owned all-weather mats. And I will miss my Individual red sycamore wood.

That is the valet lock.

You slide that, lock the console, and take the metal key out of the key fob.

All of the things your wife (or you) bought that afternoon are safe from the valet in the trunk, while you buy your wife dinner to congratulate her on cleaning out your life savings while filling up the trunk.

So does this valet/hotel lock rely on the valet's ignorance (much like my own) in not knowing the switch is in the center console, or are you supposed to also lock the center console and take the physical key so the valet only gets a weird fob that can't be hung up?

The design may not be well thought through (like how does the valet store the remote fob after you’ve removed the metal key blade that has the “hook” built in…but yes…that’s how it works as mentioned in post #5 above.
