iPod and M6 Integration
Can someone explain integrating an iPod with the M6? I would like to plug an iPod into my M6 and control the song selection with the M6. I tried plugging my iPod into the USB port in the center console but that didn't work. I can plug my iPod into the Aux port but I still have to control it using the iPod.
I have the thing in the center console (not sure what it's called) where it looks like I can plug something into the cradle but I assume I need an adapter of some sort from BMW. Is this what I need to use? Does it support an iPod? Will it allow me to control my iPod from the M6? Can I purchase it online somewhere (I prefer online shopping vs. physically going to the dealership). Any help is much appreciated. Thanks fellas! Brian

I had this same problem. My gen 1 iPod Mini hand me down wouldn't read, so I bought a generic MP3 player, then a current gen iPod shuffle, and finally the current 6th gen Nano.
http://www.apple.com/ipod-nano/ Everything can be controlled from iDrive and the playlists carry over. |

I'm using an old 160GB iPod. It's gotta be close to 10 years old (maybe more) but it works just fine. In fact it's doing far better in the M6 than it did in the B7 it just came out of. It is faster searching, faster loading, faster everything. And it's much more stable. In the B7 every now and then it would lock up and need to be rebooted to work again - have to pull it out, unplug, remember how to reboot (it did not happen that often), reboot, then install again. Of course, now that I have said that it will start locking up in this car too.

How to sync your iPod / iPhone (works for me)
1. Plug your device into the USB port inside the console. (If your device is bluetooth, it doesn't even need to be plugged in.) It can take up to 5 seconds to be recognized. Patience.
2. On the device, navigate to the part you want. For example, if you want the Playlist, go there. If you want Podcasts, go there. I realize you shouldn't have to do that. I do. 3. On the car's console, push "Media." The device should show up, and from there you can control it with iDrive. Mine starts playing automatically. |

I purchased a 7th gen Nano yesterday so going to see if that helps me out. I am not sure what gen Nano I have now (maybe 5th or 6th which should work) but it doesn't work.
I have been listening to Satellite radio for the past year and have always wondered why my stereo lacks depth (have subs/amp) when the music is playing. Hooked up my iPod and HOLY CRAP the sound is amazing (clarity and killer bass). Guess streaming satellite radio just doesn't compare to a pure digital file. Brian

If I use Bluetooth audio in my '13 M6, as soon as I plug it in to charge, it won't go back to Bluetooth without going through the entire set up each time... Grrrr. Goes back and forth with No prob in a 2015 3 series
