Question about larger tires on a 2013 650xi

I just bought a used 2013 650xi with 19 inch 351M style wheels. The recommended tires are front 245/40 and rear 275/35. So the overall diameter is about equal front and back at 26.7 inches.

I'd like to get a little more sidewall for a softer ride and a little more forgiveness over pot holes and was wondering if there are any problems with rubbing the body if I went with 245/45 fronts and 275/40 that would give a 1 inch larger diameter tire front and rear at 27.7 inches?

Advice appreciated.

The rolling radius difference would affect the accuracy of your speedometer, which I'm sure you've considered. Not sure about rubbing, but there seems plentiful arch gap, so if there was any it may only be if fully loaded or on full lock, but I'm only guessing.

There is a useful Wheel/tyre size calculator here http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Should give you an idea of what the changes will effect

Thanks for the responses but all I'm concerned about is whether or not the larger diameter tires will rub the inside of the fenders under full load and tight turns. The speedometer and miles traveled being slightly off is of little concern to me. I suspect that just an inch taller will be no problem but it would be nice to hear from someone who has actually made such a change.

Rolling diameter aside, I think that would visually appear like too much rubber, as well as raise the car, and throw the whole look off. The biggest I'd probably go on 19's would be 255/40 & 285/35, which would increase the sidewalls just a few mm's beyond OEM. For what its worth, the comfort level will greatly improve if you go non-runflats and stay with OEM size as well.

Whatever you do, I would recommend for a better ride and forgiveness replacing the RFT with a good set of NON Run-Flats. Not sure about moving up the profiles but a good tire shop could confirm.

if your car is stock height and you didn't put any type of spacers it wont rub. the stock offsets are so pushed in its impossible anything will hit the body.

Thanks, I think you are right. Looks to me like the critical part is the upper front suspension part that curves over the front tire. I'm measuring about 3/4's of an inch clearance with the stock tire so a 1/2 inch larger radius tire should clear it by around a 1/4 of an inch. Now I'm debating with myself if I want to take the gamble that it will fit.

So I posted the same question on 5 Series page since they are the same platform as the 6 Series. A few members have used a winter setup with 18 inch wheels and 50 series tires and there was no rubbing on the front spindle and that setup has the same 27.7 inch diameter as what I want to do. So the bottom line is that it can be safely done.
