Gran Coupe Sunroof Help Please

Hi Guys,

I would really appreciate some help here

I went to see a car today and couldn't get the sunroof open but flat (by open i mean that it's visible and flat that it's not vented.

1. I pulled the button back and the cover cloth slid away showing the sunroof.
2. I pushed the button in and the sun roof tilted (so air could come in)
3. I pushed the button again (presuming this would close the 'tilt') but instead it closes the 'tilt' then 'tilts' open again.

The only way i can get it open and not tilted was to close it completely by pushing the button forward (so covered and closed) and repeating step 1.

Could you guys please check if this is how yours works?

Many thanks.

I will check when I get to the car, but that seems right.

Thanks, i did think it was odd that it did that but the dealer stated that was the normal operation. I figured if it wasn't going to shut then why have the mechanism at all. I'm not a happy bunny.

Thanks again.

Edit: Can anyone based in the UK with a sunroof also verify this (just in case it's peculiar to UK models), thanks.

Mine does this once in a while. Pushing the button should close the tilt. If it does not, do what you did - slide the button forward, close everything and hold it there for a couple seconds after everything closes. This resets the system. Then it should work normally. If not, you have a bad pinch sensor. It is not normal.

Sometimes it happens to me too.. slide it forward as though you're closing the panel then press it down the second time to close the roof.

When it's in the tilt position you should be able to then change your mind and open the roof completely in one action and that is by pulling the button backwards. It should go from 'tilt' to 'closed' to 'fully open and flat' in one uninterrupted action. That's been my experience with all recent model bimmer sunroofs. Let us know how you go.

Thanks but the 6 Series operate differently - they don't fully open so the sunroof i always 'there'.

Garage List
My car has this fault intermittently, nothing works but shutting car altogether for 20-30 minutes then switching on and trying again. This week this fault was permanent with an error code on the dash, and the vented sunroof staying open so I booked it in. Engineer initialised the car from scratch that has returned full function but as abundant precaution is replacing the motor - part from Germany expected to arrive in 5 days.
