i really like alpina's styling but i think that front lip is too square and flat for the 6er styling. would love to see what alpina can do with an msport.

that rear is awesome and the power is great!

The BMW ALPINA B6 xDrive Gran Coupe is a beautiful automobile with a ridiculously long name!

Speaking of long names, today I saw a 991 that was badged as:

PORSCHE
911Carrera4GTS
all crammed together on the deck lid. That's just too much! To make matters even more cluttered, the car had a PORSCHE license plate frame, just in case you couldn't figure out what brand of car it was.

Ugh, I feel sorry for people who picked up a 2015 (not that this is that much different). Still, knowing that you could have had 60hp more by waiting just a bit longer....

I should also note, that this car does weigh 4,800lbs - so before you go trading in your M6GC, make sure you drive both

It doesn't look anywhere as nice as m6, but yes 600hp awd is nice, plus it has no dct

MCT is not much faster than ZF... maybe 100 msec and there is just one gear shifting in 0-60. I think the more important issue is weight... B6 is about 4800 lb while E63 is about 4400 lb. 400 lb lighter for almost the same torque at crank; however I have no idea about MB gearbox and axle ratio to see which car transfers more torque to the wheels.

If you're going to do that, you might as well get the performance tire set and purchase a separate winter wheel and tire set (assuming that's why you're opting for the all seasons in the first place).

Looks like a killer option for those who need x drive but want the added exclusivity and performance.

Yep. I'm sure glad the dealers that had B6's in the showroom when we wanted to buy one last December were either jerks or so enamored with the cars that they didn't want to part with them. We were willing to hold our position and simply wait for the LCI version, and the added HP and torque makes us extremely thankful that we did.

Assuming the dealer we agreed to go with doesn't pull the added-dealer-markup BS and doesn't have production slot problems, we should have one on order as soon as we can. I promise to comment on a comparison between our M6GC with the B6 if all goes well.

That's for sure. Why not just get the performance tires that come with the car, sell them or throw them in the dump, and put on all seasons if that's what one really wants. I assume they only limit the speed for liability purposes in case someone tries to go 200 MPH on all seasons. Those who would try that should get the Darwin Award by removing themselves from the gene pool anyway.

And special thanks to Jason for the info. I seem to get all the latest info from this board. Dealership is a tad sluggish.

How are they squeezing out 100 more HP from the same 4.4L? I haven't done my homework much on this car, but I hope it's hardware and not just software.

It's ok but it's not as much fun as an m. Gets boring quickly. Drove a 2015 and although this has more power, I doubt it's that much better. The DCT makes such a huge difference. I think this is a better car to compare to an RS7 or s8. The premium they charge for these cars is also retarded. The interior has subtle changes and if you got it in black leather you couldn't tell the difference. Better to get an M6 GC.

I agree, and I personally would just get the performance and install my own all-season or dedicated winters.
I just thought that by them specifically noting this limit was "non-removable" seems to slight the customer.
The way it is worded, you would essentially permanently limit the vehicles capabilities due to the type of tire optioned.
Now obviously anything can be coded in or out, but I would be curious if say a customer who selected the all-season equipment, later on installed the same oem equip tires Alpina uses, making it completely capable of handling the 200 limit. Then went and had the 130 limit removed, would they be voiding warranty or be left high and dry if there was an issue and it was above the original Alpina limit?

Sorry but this car is not impressive. It was clearly built to be below the M6 and M5 in terms of performance.

No DCT
No CCB
"Full stainless steel exhaust system"
600hp is nice, what's the RPM limit? Torque kicks in way lower on the M5/6.
HEAVY

This motor must be based off the N series engine and not the S63TU.

NO DCT?!?! This car and the S63 Coupe piss me off. Equip the car right, damn!!

Clam down. I don't think this car is below or above the M6 (or M5), just different. It is meant to appeal to a different demographic than the M's. You are correct in that the Alpina engine is a modified N63Tu, but 600 HP is impressive. Some folks prefer a slushbox over the DCT. If you want DCT and CCB, get the M.

It would be interesting to learn if people cross shop the Alpina and M6, or if the Alpina is really generating additional sales.
