Question Snap-In Phone Adapter

Visited local BMW dealership in Savannah Georgia - was advised that I could not purchase a phone snap-in adapter because my car was not "pre-wired" & when I inquired as to whether or not they could install the wiring - I was advised "they could not". Does this make sense - have any of you experienced this as well? (Thank You)
