Winter Tire Sizing Help??
Ok, so I just made a deal for a new 650 x drive coupe. Fired up after having some X5s. Looking forward to our new 6 but question for those with experience.
It is stock with 19" square setup and Good Year all seasons (insert hate here). I want to put a winter set on and have access to a set from 750 that is 19" but the tires are 245/45/19. The stock is 245/40/19. What are others using for winter? Any one comment on using the 750 style 304 wheels (I think that's what they are)? Look forward to sharing pics next week but want to be able to drive it, hence the winters. |

You didn't ask however...
I think you would be very surprised at how well the stock Goodyear's do in the winter. Most people I know here in Chicago think they are better than fine. Ride is pretty decent for a RFT as well.

Thanks for the reply. That is really funny because my wife asked me why all season tires would not be ok for a few months. I have put winters on our X5s and can really tell the difference. We live in northern MI, so they are on from November to May. The cold weather has us right now. It's -17F!
I have considered putting on Michelin Alpins even for our drive home from the dealer, but I may re-think and try the Good Years. Eagle LS2 I believe? |

Well, northern Michigan might be a little different
You will be totally fine driving home with those Goodyears on. You may even want to experiment a little? As for your tire question, I would reach out to Tirerack as well as some others here on the board. M6-Coupe?

Troymi. If you can hold out thru this winter, I will sell you my BMW OEM 18" winter package with Dunlop Winter Sport 3D RFT. I estimate these have about 10k miles on them. Wheels are mint, never curbed or bent. Tires are 245/45-18. This set works great in the winter and fits the car perfectly. PM if interested.
Here's a thread on winter tires and pics of my setup. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...043&highlight= |

I have the 19" LS2s on my '14 640 x-drive Vert. Live in NYC and spend a fair amount of time in Vt ( where I am now)
We've had 6 FEET of snow here since Feb 1 and it's currently -1 F. Are the LS2s great snow tires? No. But for All Seasons and x-drive I've done quite well. Little slips here and there on steep mountain corners with fresh snow but so are the Subarus with winter tires. Unless you're really pushing them (which is foolish to say the least) they're not bad. But as far as RFTs in general, don't get me started. |

I ended up ordering a set of Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 and I'm going to use the stock wheels. I'm sure I'll end up wanting something else for summer anyway. Thanks for the comments. Look forward to sharing and learing on this side of the wall.
