Brake squeal

Any of you guys deal with hearing your brakes squeal at all? I have a 2014 M6 GC and pretty consistently get a squeal out of the front right upon braking. If I let off the break and then reapply the squeal isn't there. When I brought it into the dealership they said they weren't able to recreate the sound I was getting but that it was common with the kinds of breaks the M6 have. Anyone else deal with this? Thanks

You're not alone. I have a 2015 M6 GC and the squeal is terrible. I even had the brakes taken apart and rebuilt and it solved nothing. You're just going to have to live with it. Sucks!

Just be glad you didn't get the carbon ceramics. These damn things draw more attention than my exhaust. The only temporary solution is to take it up to 80mph and slam the brakes so hard that the ABS kicks in. Keeps em quiet for a week or so. Not sure if the same thing will help with non carbons.

LOL. I do the exact same remedy on mine. Did the dealer tell you or did you figure it out on your own (as I did by accident)

Haha. I'm just waiting for the day that I get pulled over and have to try and explain what I'm doing to the cop. I usually do it on the 405 when it's empty at night, since the PCH near where I live often has speed traps. Must look pretty ridiculous to anyone who happens to see it from a distance.

I actually googled it a little bit before I picked up the car since I saw the carbon ceramic noise disclaimer on the bmw website, and ended up coming across the technique being mentioned on the Ferrari forums. Seems like it's standard equipment on all of their cars.

LOL... so you did pay extra for CCB to help tire's company
I see people do the same thing as temporarily solution, but indeed you guys are putting more worn on tires... TBH I am living with this noise and don't care about the noise... keep the windows up and live your life

Eh, I'm sure that's true but I can think of some other driving habits of mine that probably erode their fair share of rubber as well. With the roof down in the city that brake noise just gets too annoying, so every couple of weeks you just gotta blast em! I've noticed that if I do mostly highway driving (without traffic), they seem to stay quiet for the following few days of city driving.

Oh I see. I didn't notice you have Convertible!
You can try bedding process if it's not the same technique you have already done... maybe it works for you.

Guys, big cars with big brakes = brake pads and discs needing to be bedded in properly, else uneven contact will result in squeal noted.

Simple technique: find a back road with minimal traffic. Heat up the brakes a little with 3-4 60 -20 mph steady moderate pressure stops.

Then take this big beast up to 60-80 and do a firm stop to 20 without activating the ABS. Do 8-10 reps. Drive evenly after wards and allow to cool. Some glaze may be present afterwards so be prepared for a little extra length in the next braking zone or two.

After that, the squeal should be eliminated.
