Its different in a couple ways. Obviously you give up perfect shifts every time with zero lag in between however' the clutch/gearbox is so advanced/forgiving- Ive never been able to power shift so easily. However- its a tricky clutch because while smooth as butter, the sweet spot is further into the clutch, so it takes a little getting used to.

It really comes down to how well experienced you have with a MT that will make the drivability up to par w/ the dct- but fun factor (for me) theres no comparison.

Until you get the timing down- its big long shifts.

However- if you plan to track the car-its honestly too heavy and the perfect shifts of a dct are necessary. Theres no question dct is slightly faster if you havent really learned the clutches sweet spots, but like I said above- once you get used to it- I wouldnt trade it in for the world

one thing that bothered me about the dct is how jerky it is in 1st gear. None existent with the Mt.

That's because the shorter gear of DCT vs MT.
The first gear of DCT has 4.81 :1 gear ratio while in case of MT it is 4.06 :1 ; So DCT (in first gear) is 18.5% shorter and transfers 18.5% more torque to the rear wheels and that's what you call it jerky especially when the throttle response is set to sport+

Ahhhh I knew there was an explanation for it! That makes sense, mind you I only test drove it once before submitting my order so just like the MT- I felt there was a little learning curve with the dct too. All I had was my 2014 model MT to compare it to so naturally I was more comfortable with the 6spd by then

I don't understand why 1st is so short unless it is for clutch life when people are unexpectedly slipping the DCT clutches. It isn't like you're ever going to get grip in 1st!

I'm not sure if there is any relation between the gear ratio and clutch life, but I think the reason the first gear is too short is for racing purposes... I admit the short gears (first gear) causes the traction issue, but at the same time it transfers more torque at higher RPM too; So basically you have more force (torque) and in result more acceleration at high end (RPM). If you modulate the throttle you can get good amount of traction after 4000 RPM when your car gets off the line while sending over 8000 lb-ft torque to rear wheels...Using wider and softer rear tires you can go 0-60 in 3.6-3.7 second which is 0.2-0.3 second faster than MT ...BUT overall I think if it was 4.5:1 we would have more fun
With that said, the first gear ratio of new X5M/X6M is rated at 5.00:1 with about 10% more torque (at crank); however those cars are AWD.

zero room in the back seat of a 2 door. Have him sit up front and her short ass in the back. My 12 year old can barely get his feet on the floor in my Gran Coupe in the rear without the front seat squishing the front passenger.

dont let her tight black dress, light brown hair, freshly shaved backyard fool ya

This got me thinking, I'm excited enough to do the actual maths

Their rolling radius is also more however, 13.48" versus 14.34". Final drive is the same, and of course as you said first is shorter. Here is a fantastic and actually relevant article!

http://m5carblog.blogspot.co.nz/2013...er-part-2.html

So the torque to the ground in an M6 DCT in first is actually a peak of 502 * 3.15 * 4.80 / 13.48 * 12 = 6757lbft. Note his numbers are similar but I've used the actual numbers, he rounded a bit.

In the X5M it is 553 * 3.15 * 5 /14.34 * 12 = 7288lbft.

A manual M6 would be 5715lbft, probably a lot easier to get grip in!

Well I'm not sure how did you calculate and what is about that rolling radius but as far as I know this is the way you can calculate the torque at wheels:
Torque (at wheel) = Torque (at crank) * gear ratio * FD ratio * (1-drivetrian loss)

So at 576 lb-ft torque at crank ( measured by Dinan) and considering 12% drivetrain loss, M6 DCT transfers 8709 lb-ft (576*4.8*3.15) and puts down 7664 lb-ft of torque (576 *4.8 *3.15 * 0.88)
M6 MT puts down 6482 lb-ft. I believe the actual torque of X5M/X6M is more than 600 lb-ft (at crank) so they put down over 8000 lb-ft of torque!
