I'd go with the Passport 9500ci. It's a complete radar and laser defense system. Custom installed so it's stealthy. Best option IMO. I don't like mounting stuff on the windshield or dangling wires in my nice cabin.

Careful! Some law enforcement still use K band (most use Ka)
BEST feature of the V1 is that it tells you the direction of from where the beam is coming!

Does it detect if there's a laser in use or does it defeat a laser that's aimed at your car?

Both. It detects the lasers and has front and rear mounted laser shifters. What I like the most about it is that it can be mounted discretely and the displays and control flush in the cabin (if taken to a reputable shop) to give it an OEM look and feel. Best mounting job I've seen has the control mounted flush inside the ashtray and the display modded into the OEM mirror. Looks as though it came like that from factory.

The 9500ci from passport is top of the line out there but you will pay for it. They no longer have the rear laser jammer that is the old model the new one has the front laser shift pro series and a option to buy the rear in the future. By the way the price is now 1999.00 went up from 1599.00 and no rear laser. They offer a smart cord for another 100 dollars or so that syncs to your phone via Bluetooth that is a cool feature. Also that is not installed it is about 300-600 dollars people want to do it.

What the difference between a laser jammer and shifter? Jammer is illegal here in Cali.
Cost is worth it if it saves me from a big ticket with increased insurance cost for 2 years.

Best setup is the BEL STIr plus with Laser Interceptors HP diffusers.

Look up a poster on the M5 board by the name of stealth.pilot who has posted an extensive amount of info on this setup.

This setup is 4k+ installed.

This is what I currently have on my M5. Very happy thus far

You asked about radar detectors… My favorite radar detector is the V1.

If you also want to a laser jammer/shifter that can be purchased as a stand alone (not from valentine).

^^This is the best IMHO, but I got mine plus installation for $2300.

I do as well. The arrows on the V1 are just a marketing technique since you can judge if a cop is behind you or in front of you with simple logic. If the Max tells you the signal is getting stronger as you continue driving, the cop is in front of you. Otherwise it's behind you.

Couldn't the signal get stronger coming from behind as well (i.e. he is driving faster than you are)?

If that's the case, then yes. However I would venture a guess that if you have a radar detector, a cop isn't driving faster than you unless he's already chasing someone.

Not true. Many traffic patrol officers will dirge faster than the PSL tot catch speeders from behind using this very same technique. The V1 and it's arrows are very useful.

If you want an installed radar detector like the Escort 9500ci, the Beltronics STiR+ is a much better option. It is more customizable resulting in it being more sensitive than the Escort unit. They are both made and owned by the same company.

The best laser jammer is the Antilaser Priority. There are many LIDAR guns that the Laser Interceptor is unable to jam such as the DragonEye Compact and versions of the the DragonEye Speed LIDAR and Stalker XLR, that the AntiLaser Priority is able to jam.

I did quite a bit of homework on this and from what I found and what is being installed in my car next week is this...

Beltronics STiR radar detector (it's identical to Passport 9500ci) coupled with the AL Priority Jammer using 5 sensors (3 front and 2 rear).

You can go with the Passport 9500ci (no doubt it's badass) but from what I have researched the jammer system doesn't rank compared to the AL Priority system. The AL Priority system is just hands down kickass.

Pricing (bestradardetectors.net)
$1,311.95 : AL Priority w/ 5 Sensors
$811.95 : Beltronics STiR+ (this is a discounted price - must purchase AL and Beltronics together)
$1,500-$2,000 : Installation of both
