UK Service cost

Hi guys,
Just wondering what others are paying for servicing here in the UK. Just had a quote from my local BMW stealer of £486 for an oil service at 12300 miles (its hit the time based change rather than mileage).
I've asked them to send me a breakdown of the work with prices as that seems nuts even if you estimate £120 in oil, £40 for filter and ancillaries and £130 an hour labor.

Seems that they price service based on the RRP of the car rather than what they actually do. I'd advise you to call round a three different BMW dealer groups and explain your looking for the best price before going back to your local dealer. I find that I can usually get 10% off just for asking.

Mine has probably had it's last oil change under the 5 year/50,000 mile service package. I've had interim oil changes done, so just oil and filter, the last time the cost was £246, the oil alone (8.5L of Shel SLX 0W-30) cost £155!

You can pop your details here and get the price for the service from BMW. https://www.bmw-service.co.uk

When I last check for mine the cost was 190 which included oil filter and vat.

Only applies to cars over 3 years old.. Cars under 3 years old like mine just get a sign saying "please call us" so we can bend you over at a different rate.

If you buy your own oil you will save a bundle of cash, also most dealers will price match others, so go in there with a fictitious yet sensible budget advised by your preferred garages competition and you will probably be surprised.

Dont listen that crap where they insist you are to buy their own oil, as long its the right grade with a receipt youll be fine.

Thanks

i paid 35 bucks for an oil change; labor only at EU Tech in Sacramento California. Not including consumables, I usually order the kit online ! Can't beat indie master tech labor rates!

Yeah its still under warranty so don't really want to take it to an indie even though I can as long as they use all OEM and follow the maintenance schedule. I did end up phoning around a few main dealers and they were all within £20 of each other so ended up just leaving it booked in at my local.
I did however get a quote for a service pack for the car which brings down the total servicing cost of 3 years considerably so may go for that in the long term.
