650i top speed question
Does anyone know if there's a top speed difference between the X-drive and RWD F13 650i coupe? If so, what is the top speed for each. The reason I ask is that in the 2013 ordering guide the M-sport package for the RWD variant lists an increased top speed limiter as one of the features. But the X-drive variant doesn't.

M Sport ups the top speed from 135 mph to 155 mph for both 650s - at least that was the case for the 2012s. I doubt that has changed. I haven't examined the specs that closely, but I can't imagine any reason why that would be any different between the two cars - especially since both had a top speed of 155 mph in 2012.

Here are a few screen grabs of the M Sport package from the 2013 ordering guide. I think it may be the difference in tires that explains the top speed limiter difference. xDrive: all-season tires, RWD: performance tires. Maybe it's a tire speed rating thing. I don't plan on taking the car much above 130 anyhow, but it still sucks!

The code 2NM shows the 373M 20" with performance tires. That's what I have on my xDrive, and I have the 155 mph limiter.

I agree Southern......... 155mph is all I can get out of ours, then it seems to hit a flat spot...................................... at least that was in my dream!!
We have yet to go from a dead stop and just floor it. Think I'll wait til the wife's not in the car. The acceleration is outstanding. While touring on the Autobahn in Germany, I sat on the driver's side of the bus to watch all the high end cars go by.............. most were just a blur!! Germany remains the only country without a speed limit on their highway. Surprisingly, a lot of wagons........ BMW, Mercedes and Audi . They love their cars, even though they have families. Saw a Maserati coupe.......... with Maserati embroidered baby seats in the back!!! |

Not to point out the obvious, but they are all limited electronically based on what options are selected when the car is built. I think you are either stuck with 130 or 155 depending on the tire and wheel options. If you really want to have some fun, get the Dinan Stage 2 and it will completely remove the electronic limitations. I'm considering it if I can ever go a whole tank of gas without having to head back to the service center. I wonder if anyone has ever tried putting the Stage 2 on their BMW loaner? After all, that is where I spend most of my time!

Haha. They owe it to you after everything you've been through.

I was wondering about the increased top speed limiter also. Sad to say, the car maxed at 160mph.
