engine light 2013 M6
Engine light on a 2013 M6 convertible with 43,000 miles.
So I start her up and literally coast in neutral from to home to Starbucks for 1 minute and put into drive the last 10 feet to maneuver a parking spot and boom, the engine pops on and won’t go away. How & why? Just had oil changed at BMW two days prior. |

Did you check your owners manual to get an understanding of what the CEL (check engine light) is for?
It comes on when there’s a sensor associated with the car’s emissions system. It is the OBD II federal mandate that came came into compliance in 1996 in the USA. It is misunderstood by many owners…assuming their engine is going go blow up. It has nothing to do with your oil. It’s associated with something associated with fuel/air/ignition not being correct (again…emissions). If you don’t have a generic OBD II scanner/reader or another diagnostic tool or app that can pull these codes…you can usually stop by a local car shop like AutoZone/Pep Boys./O’Reilly’s/NAPA/Advanced Auto/etc…and they will usually pull the codes for free. If you do the above, you can simply google the 5 digit “P code” (aka DTC- diagnostic trouble coe)…or the 6 digit BMW hex code (if you have a tool/app that will give you that info) to see what area or sensor set the fault code.

Sorry man, a lot of ppl that owned these cars most likely moved on to the m8 or got something else. With that said, I would immediately take it in. Hopefully it's not anything major, pls keep us updated. |
