F13 cracked windshield

My windshield was hit by a pebble while following a truck at 80mph last night. Heard it bounce off the windshield and thought nothing of it. This morning, I spotted this 1/2 inch crack.

The replacement windshield will take 4-6 weeks to order.

Does anyone have any advice on treatments that can be applied in the meanwhile to keep it from cracking further?

Thanks in advance.

Well for your next windshield i highly recommend installing a protective film on it, it helps i have seen it myself.

a few drops of superglue on the crack will hold it in the mean time.

I heard of that before but wasn't sure until hearing from you. Will give it a shot. Tks.

Will certainly look into it after the new windshield is installed. Tks for the tip.

NP, you can also try windshield crack repair kit, basically UV cure rasins, for anything less than 1/4" inch. I paid $8 at local auto store. For 1/2", I think it might work too. I used that to repair my mini cooper windshields a few times b/c of its vertical windshield design. Repairs were almost invisible, and they were good until I sold both cars.

ouch! I also had the misfortune last week to have my F06 windshield crack from a rock kicked up while driving, and then immediately expanded to more than 14inches, so I had it replaced immediately. Luckily BMW was able to secure within a day, but oh was it costly....$2400+! thankfully insurance covered it all!!!!!!

Ouch! $2400 for windshield!! I had to replace windshield on my X5 a few times when I own it because I used to drive out to visit customers in industrial area frequently. Each replacement was about $5-600 but not BMW OEM glass. It would cost $10k just for new glass if I had a 6er.

It was $2,600 for my case. Unfortunately windshield replacement is not covered under my insurance.

I have applied the super glue. Certainly not a professional job but hopefully it will hold for the time being. Thanks again for the advice.

Yup, $2472.10 to be exact! Crazy...

Wow, really? Is it not required ? Most insurance on new cars would come with full glass coverage in the States, but luckily I had no deductible or I would have had to pay about $1,500 sorry for your situation

Full coverage insurance where I live would be close to USD10k per annum for this car. At that rate, I figured I will be able to pay for windshields, rims, tires, etc before reaching that figure.

I'm sorry to hear about the crack in your windshield. If you want to prevent the crack from spreading further, it's best to take care of it as soon as possible. You can use a windshield repair professional kit like the one offered by Crack Eraser to repair the crack temporarily. However, keep in mind that this is only a temporary fix and it's still important to get a replacement windshield as soon as possible for your safety. In the meantime, avoid extreme temperature changes and driving over rough roads, as these can make the crack worse. Stay safe!

I had a windshield replaced in my 2017 650i convertible last year. $1200 and covered in full by insurance. Insurance company didn't want to put in OEM glass because the car was more than 2 years old and had more than 30K miles. I fought it once i found out OEM glass was only $400 more and they put it in.

Oh, that's a bummer about the cracked windshield! It's always surprising how a seemingly harmless pebble can cause quite a headache. While I'm no expert, you might want to look into temporary fixes like windshield repair kits. I've heard good things about Crack Eraser's windshield repair kits, and they could potentially help prevent the crack from spreading further during the waiting period.

Here's the link to their collection in case you want to check them out: https://crackeraser.com/collections/...ld-repair-kits. It might not be a permanent solution, but it could buy you some time until the replacement arrives.

I've been in a similar situation with a cracked windshield, and I can tell you that a Crack Eraser repair kit worked wonders for me. It's an excellent solution for preventing the crack from spreading while you wait for your replacement. I'd recommend giving it a try. You can find more information about it here. It helped me keep my windshield intact until the replacement arrived. Hope this helps, and best of luck with the repair! 😊

In situations like these, I've found using windshield repair resin incredibly helpful. I faced a similar predicament last summer, and after some research, I stumbled upon Crack Eraser's windshield repair resin collection. It's easy to apply and effectively prevents the crack from spreading, buying you time until you can get a replacement windshield. You can find more about it here.
