New Nav Pro delayed until MY2014

At least according to my SA.

Take that for what it's worth, in case you're waiting for the March 2013 production to order a F12/13.

I had a feeling this might happen since the m6 still doesn't have the new nav yet when the list that was released earlier said they would be one of the first.

You got to be kidding. I was waiting for the updated Idrive to order my 650i. Both dealers I am working with told me March production for the 6 series to get it. I mean Jesus, they start installing it tomorrow in the bottom end 3 series, but make the flagship 6 wait till '14??
I'm going to call my SA. If this is true, I may dump BMW - this is ridiculous.

I really don't think you will get a good answer until someone receives a march build 6 series.

In my opinion, you should make the decision to either use the holiday incentives and order now, wait until the my2014 comes out, or move on from bmw all together.

My reasoning for this is, if you wait until someone receives a march build and it does have the new idrive, you car will at the very least be a late april build and wouldn't get in until may or june. At that point you are only a couple months from the my2014.

And if you order a March build before really knowing and it doesn't come with the new idrive you are going to be really disappointed that you waited and didn't take advantage of the incentives.

You should also probably go talk to the people in the m5 forum to see if they really think the new idrive is worth the wait. The hardware specs are a little better and you get 3d maps, but it really isn't anything astonishing.

Good advice, but a couple of points.

1) I should not have to wait for someone to take delivery in April to know for sure if the upgrade is actually being installed in the 6er. Frustrating that the dealers (in my experience) have not been able to give me a concrete answer on this - even after weeks of checking. I mean what's wrong with BMW that they can't provide accurate info to their dealers & customers?

2) I would only order this $85,000 dream car if I had a guarantee from the dealer that it would arrive with the new Idrive - and if not, I would refuse to take delivery.

3) The upgrade is actually fairly extensive and the first since 2008 of the Idrive hardware/software. Take a look at the specs below. Also read it also features better bluetooth, advanced receiver for traffic, GPS & connected drive. I deal with computer graphics, no comparison between Nvidia and Fujitsu or new Intel processor & Renesas.

Bottom line there is no reason it should not be installing today. I don't want to wait until next August/Sept - may end up forgetting BMW.

The list of hardware upgrades (vs. the current) which will power these upgrades include:

Intel processor 1.3Ghz vs Renesas 600Mhz
1GB RAM (vs 512Mb)
8GB flash (vs 512Mb)
Nvidia graphics (vs Fujitsu)
200GB hard drive (vs 80Gb)

Just out of curiosity what would you look at getting instead of the 6 series?

I completely agree with you that this is really frustrating, in my opinion they should have never even tried a mid year upgrade.

Actually I am not sure why they even choose to upgrade the system now when they expect to release the idrive touch in some models next year. This is my first bmw so I really don't know what the company usually does, but it is possible they could be thinking to skip this idrive upgrade and put in the touch system next year. But either way they should be giving the customers more info so that they know what to expect.

Once it's available, I'm sure these guys can retrofit the new navigation in older F12/13.

No offense, But I am not going to purchase a $85K 650 and bring it to a 3rd party company to rip the electronics out of a brand new car. Also can't be cheap, and would void the BMW warranty. and if you lease your throwing your money away. And all the time thinking they are installing this as standard in every 3,5 & 7 series NOW. NO WAY.

Well, I originally started looking at a Benz E550 coupe, and might give it a second look. But that car is slated for a facelift sometime in '13, not sure when. I might even look at the new C7 '14 Vette being introduced in Jan. Supposed to be a big improvement over the C6. Now I know it's not in the same class as the 650, but it's also over $30,000 less and they just announced the engine - 6.2L V8 direct injection, variable valve timing, Cyl deactivation
450 HP/450Lb torque. We'll see.

And BTW - the point is they upgraded the idrive for the other models, why not the 6?

I won't buy one w/o the new iDrive. I'll either wait until Dec 13 to order one for spring delivery of a vert or order an SL550 in Dec '12 for a spring '13 delivery.

If this thread is true, BMW REALLY screwed up on this one.

And it a self inflicted injury - did not need to happen,
That being said, BMW just announced their holiday incentives $3500 off all 6 series for Nov/Dec! Combined with USAA discount my price would be $17500 off list !! Tempting - is the new Idrive worth $3500 ??

In Europe the new iDrive and extended cluster is confirmed from march production.
I would think it also would include the US...

This is highly reminiscent of "The Great F12/13 Engine Debacle of Summer 2012."

Just goes to show how little we enthusiasts matter in the grand scheme of BMW customers. While we all track these upgrades and changes for the slightest variation and become highly offended by these changes, we are the 1%... or maybe 5% to 10%, but that's not as pithy

The prime 6er demographic is older, a lot more female than these forums would suggest, and includes customers who often care most about the badge and the looks (i.e. clueless to changes like power output, hardware changes, and processing speeds).

Sad but I think it is the best explanation for BMW's, "sorry, but sh!t happens" attitude toward our complaints about these unfortunate decisions.

Personally I think it is about marketing. If the cars had everything today, what would they upgrade tomorrow? The 5 got the new iDrive but not the upgraded power. The 6 got the upgraded power, but not the iDrive. These are real world enhancements and they drive customers to the showrooms. Just kind of sucks if you are an enthusiast. Just ask the guy wo picked up an 06 550 in Dec of 2005 only to have the 07s come out ( unexpectedly) in March of 06.

For someone like me who just stepped into a new 650 from a different manufacturer, the present iDrive is just fine! Also, I would imagine that the 3-series would get this upgrade first seeing as though it is the best selling model.

I guess you're counting on more than the 3,500 and $6K from USAA to get to $17,500 off.

Personally, I don't care. USAA incentives aren't going anywhere and I can get 6% off sticker with nary an argument any day of the week. Have to live with this car for 4 years. I'm not going to settle for what's in my M3 for the last 2.5 years when the 3 series cars are getting it.

You don't think the 650 which is close to twice the price of a 3 series should have the newest/best Idrive before or at least the same time as it's low end siblings?

The $6K USAA discount is off dealer invoice. Also just found out we can't use the $3500 holiday incentive, since it has to be through BMWFS which drops USAA to a lousy $1K discount. I'm not buying. Their year end "promotion" is garbage.

I'd be interested in your thoughts on this. Was the 6K off invoice only on the '12s hanging around? Was my impression those cars were almost being given away, especially with the hp upgrade in the '13s.

No the 6K USAA incentive is off '13's as well. Actually not much difference in discount between 12 & 13. Go for a '13
