Rear brembos being installed
Finally got my rear brembos delivered today. In the next few days will get them on my car. I havent yet seen anyone with rear brembos on a F12 640 coupe or 4dr.
I will post pics when its done. |

You are not concerned that you will lose ebrake and also the ediff?

I think dont really use the ebrake; I think i have used it twice in the past year.
What is the ediff? I assume you are referring to the brake assist? If so, I may miss that a bit, but I drove stick for so many years that the rolling back a bit wont bother me. Plus since it automatic, the tranny will hold it up a bit ... I opened up the box today and noticed that the rear of the rotor has a really big opening... looks like it actually may support a drum. If that case, I may be able to keep the ebrake. |

So I got them installed... the braking feels much more balanced when compared to only having the brembos in the front.
The downside (for now) is the notifications/lights on the dash. I think I can get those coded off. Any ideas guys? |

When I mentioned ediff, I was referring to electronic differential. The F12/F13 does not have real lsd. Instead, it relies on electronic modulation of the rear brakes to achieve similar effects. As far as I know, replacing the rear brakes defeats this feature, which will in the least affect handling, at worse compromising safety.......

It's not an ediff. An ediff is a proper LSD with electronic control of the clutch pack.
It's brake assistance on a stock non limited slip diff and IMHO it's garbage as most of the time one wheel has to spin considerably before brakes are applied and this takes too long, heats brakes and increases wear. If you're an incredibly inept driver it might help a bit but for most of us actually wanting performance, the stock diff and brake thing is garbage. If you're going to fit bigger brakes, go get a full LSD too because it will light up the car in terms of handling and make the loss of assisted braking no concern at all. I'm going full LSD on the Z4 next year. £2k fitted, bargain. Just my two cents... |

I, for one, do not understand these kinds of upgrades. I do not believe your braking improves noticeably, and you mess with existing safety and control systems. You end up with all kinds of warnings, and so on. These then have to be 'coded' away. Who knows what else gets affected? What if you ever have an issue with braking or heaven forbid an accident? BMW will rightly just shrug their shoulders.
What is the point? The existing brakes are more than adequate. I rely on BMW to ensure the key components do their job. R.

To get better braking power, he only need to replace the brakelines with steel ones, and better brake pads...... For me, I had no issues with the stock brakes on my F06, I just painted the calipers black to get them out of the way

How do we know that the brake assist system will be disabled by this upgrade? It doesn't use the electro mechanical brake surely? Which is the only component lost. I agree it's better than a completely open diff hence my comment about an LSD being needed if a real difference is required.

Lets be real guys ... My gran coupe gets so little enthusiastic driving, its silly. This car is cruiser. I got the brakes so it matches the front.
For me, the the brake feel is awesome and nice to drive the streets. This car will never see the track or anything close to that. Plus I wanted them all yellow since I have a set of ADV1's on order coming soon. |
