Can a 640i coupe be optioned out like a 650i?

My question is this:
In 2012-2013 model year could the 640i come with all the standard AND ALSO all the options that were available on the 650i if the 640i was fully optioned out?

IE: Besides the engine, what is the difference between a 2012-13 640i vs a 650i?

Because if the only difference is the motor than I will pick up a 640i and upgrade the turbos & add a custom tune.

Sure you can. I've seen 640s that had more bells and whistles than 650s although they're not as common. Engine is the only difference. If you're planning on getting a tune anyways, why not just get a 650? Pre-owned prices between the 2 aren't that much different. Just make sure that MY didn't have the N63 engine.

Very rare and not cost effective. By the time someone adds options to the 640i to match the base 650i, you're getting to a similar price point while having a less desirable car. If you want options that should be standard for cars in this price range, go with a 650i. When I was shopping for a 6, the options that were missing on some 640is can be found on a $35K Hyundai. Not to mention IMO a car of this caliber should have at least a V8 to pull all that weight. I also think the early I6 models were not available with AWD.

Maybe if you show us a couple of cars you're interested in, it would be easier to pick? I'm curious to see two similarly optioned I6/V8s.

you wont find a loaded 640 in the states. If anyone is going to spend all that money for all the options they will add the 8. You would have to find a special kind of weirdo in the states to custom order one in that configuration. The dealers sure as hell wont.

Get the 650 and enjoy the power AND the warranty. Just make sure it is the N63TU motor, which will be 2013+ in the 650.

Even if you could find the mythical fully loaded 640, you would spend more than the price difference between the 640 and 650 tuning it and bolting stuff on and in the end have a car that still has less power than the 650 and now a voided warranty.

In Europe, you might find those fully loaded 640's, or certainly the diesel versions. Due to the tax structure there, they could make more sense.

Personally, I would sprint to the dealer for the euro only X5 ///M50d. What a vehicle!
