I agree looking at the numbers. The Benz kills the BMW. I prefer the BMW in the looks department though.

BMW has a clear minus: ~ 200kg more than SL
Other than that it has the best price/performance.
Curious if M6 had CC brakes in this test.

what in the world? MB faster than BMW around track?

MB should've been first.

True that MB can move move move,,, but clearly the M is the looker of the bunch, and the more natural car to own. Still don't like the Top design, but once down you undoubtably soon forget what it looked like while it was upright.

I am glad I didn't bet on the results, because I would have had my money on the jag. I'm glad that I'm wrong.

My gosh, the M is a pig. You'd have to stuff 2 more chicks to be on par with the M. Lets hope they implement carbon technology on their next model.

Come to the think of it. Where does all the weight come from?

Electronics mostly. I don't know why they don't invest more in streamlining the systems and reducing their weight. I would love to know how much those seats weigh.

I actually think SL looks better than M6. All 3 are fine grand touring cabriolet though but I just admire them, not desire any of them.

Don't forget the SL is 50k (euros) more than the M6.
It's clearly not a 50k better car.

The CLS is a sedan, so I am assuming you mean the CL. Mercedes doesn't actually have a direct competitor to the 6 series. The E-Class Coupe/vert are are in a slightly lower market, and the CL is in a substantially higher market. The SL is simply the closest thing they have to the 6.

Does everyone really think all these websites and magazines can actually report honest reviews? Of course not.
There may be more to the story than just the raw numbers.

Thumbs down

The benz is clearly the winner! I can't believe the M flagship car that just came out recently got beaten that easily

What were BMW's engineers thinking when they allowed a 2000kg+ M car to roll out of the design room?! Seriously, I admire how light the SL63 AMG is... and its got a hardtop folding roof as well.. not the crappy soft top the M6 has. Honestly the 6 series convertible should have received a hardtop like the 3 series convertible

M cars don't do it for me any more... first the turbos and now the elephant weight.. *sigh*

Salut Vlad,

The M6 didn't have the carbon-ceramic brakes, however the SL was fitted with them.

For those of you who don't understand German, they basically said the M6 is more agile, has got better traction, better handling and steering but worse brake-pedal feel.

Now in a way I agree, the SL has the better numbers, however think about it like this, it has way more torque, it is way lighter, better brakes , is around 50.000 euros more expensive and is only marginaly faster then the others.

I agree. Usually for cars that cost north of 100k, price shouldn't really come into play because if you have that sort of money, price doesn't matter to you. But if you compare them, yes the SL63 has better numbers but they're not huge differences - they're in fact pretty minor. The SL63 is NOT 50k better than the M6.

How do you figure it got beaten easily? You complain about the M6 being the heavier car yet the numbers are pretty even in the acceleration times (until you get up there in revs/speed), and braking distance is 1.6m different which isn't that bad given that the SL63 weighs less AND has ceramic brakes. So I don't know where you're getting the impression that the SL63 just walked over the M6...

Imagine how fast you would destroy a set of tires on the m6. You'd have to bring two sets to the track.
