V1 or Escort 9500xi are good affordable options. If you want to drop the coin I know several people on here seem to really like their full car systems like the Escort 9500ci.

Mine do. I have a V1 in the SUV and a 9500xi in the M6. I'm not a slow driver, and my detectors have absolutely saved me from tickets a large number of times. Most of our local police have car/suv mounted radar units that are always on. This means I know when I'm approaching a police car long before I can see them be it on the highway or curvy back roads. They won't do a ton if you're dealing with laser driven speed traps, but around here it's mostly KA band radar from local police and state troopers. I haven't had a ticket in about 15 years, and I spend most of my commute in the triple digits. YMMV.

V1 is the way to go.
I was stopped 5 times and ticketed once in my first 6 months in my M6 before the V1. Since the V1 no stops, no close calls, no nothing. I swear by them. I move it between the i8 and the M6. |

Came back from a 1,000 mi road trip. This saved me at least 9 times going and coming From OC to Laguna Seca, which for race week, is not unheard of.
Depending on the terrain (hills, flat, curves, etc...), the V1 will pick up Ka (currently in my AO) in the high, mid, and low bands a ways out, allowing you to reduce speed and tuck back into traffic. It also indicates the direction of the threat. On the open road, they're indispensable. In an urban environment, it depends on your local agency's usage. |

If you do not mind me asking, where did it occur? If in NJ, you can reduce ticket to no points for a first occurrence in a deal with the prosecutor. Also, think about taking an online point reduction course which can knock off 4 points -- AAA has an approved course. I also seem to recall that NY hits you with a $300 surcharge, in addition to the ticket.

So that means court in Harlem, and at the trial level there is no pre-trial discovery, but your attorney will know all that. I have a Valentine, and still got tagged on the FDR, just too many false alarms in NYC to differentiate the false alarms from the boggies. I was able to get 2 points knocked off at trial, and 4 point came off from the point reduction course, which left me with just 2. Also just got tagged with a laser on Park doing 40 mph in the new 25 mph zone (3 points). What a waste to have the NYC Police tasked for these matters, instead of pursuing real crime in the City which is on the upswing since Mayor "Nero" came into office. Good luck, and I am sure you should at most be looking at 2 points.

Not going to talk about speeding as there is a reason to enforce that. Its the BS tickets that happen in California way too much.
I was on the road to Las Vegas to celebrate my sons 21st Birthday and I was not pulled over on the highway for speeding or any other Violation other than TINT NO FRONT PLATE A COVER OVER rear plate CELL PHONE , ( I was plugging in the USB cord) What a waste, I just feel its someone that will never have a car like this and look for every opportunity to F with us. What a shitty way to start a wonderful trip Ok I am done venting |

I was just in Germany. Sorry to rub it in, but it's soooo nice to be able to cruise at 100-120 mph with no drama, no ticket risk. When there's a limit posted, which there is in cities, near big merges, if the pavement is in subpar condition, bad weather, then you need to follow it; but it's surprisingly relaxing to cruise at 100+ on a good highway.
Plus people tend to move over when they see an M6 approaching from behind. I'm just saying.... |

I use an Escort Redline. doesn't have all the gps stuff on it (nor do I need it, it lowers the range) so when you tailor it to fit your needs (some bands you can block, along with Frequency Ranges for your area) I usually get 3/4 mile or more notice.
With any detector, if you are the only car on the road, it won't matter. But I've been alerted (always) and usually 1/2 mile up I see the po po ahead. |

AL Priority laser jammer, belltronics Sti-r integrated detector is the best on the market. Radar detectors don't do much good if you are hit by laser.

I have the internal 9500ci Passport and Laser shifters in front and rear. My gripe is that it's too bad Escort can't tell you the direction of the radar like the Valentine One can because it would be 100% better to know where the radar is coming from, especially if it is coming from a police car behind you or travelling the opposite way on the other side of the road.
In any case, the app called Waze is one of the best ways to see if po po is on the road, at least for my area in Orlando. You should download and try it, it's free!

I have the Bel STiR+ for radar which is essentially the same hardware and technology as the Passport 9500ci. However, the Bel STiR+ doesn't come with the laser jammer system (there are better jammers). I went with ALPriority's jammer with 3 heads in the front and 2 in the rear (max heads you can have). ALPriority is top dog in laser jamming systems.
The radar has saved me a few times but the hunters will still pop you. The ones who swoop up quick and then flip the radar on last minute. The jammer has saved me 4-5 times now in the past year I have had the system on the car. It doesn't happen often but then again when it works it works! The custom installation on the radar and jammer is expensive though. I probably have a good $3000-3500 total with both systems and installation. It isn't cheap but it's a super clean install and saves your ass if you like to push the speed limit often. Brian |

I run with V1 with Remote Display, Laser Interceptors and Waze. No tickets in the past 6 years and I drive crazy, most of the time. I have found that officers aren't radaring or lasering as much these days, instead they are pacing innattentive drivers. Waze is a life saver, even in Virginia where the Troopers will catch you if you are running with a V1 turned on. My advice, at the very least is to get a car mount for your smart phone and start running the Waze up every time you drive. I never pull out of the garage or leave a parking lot now without Waze running. Escort Live is pretty cool too, but Waze is easier to use. My motto now is, "if you aren't driving with Waze running, then you deserved that speeding ticket."
Cheers.

No, the only thing they are really good for is going off when a cop is around and has his system on. If he's radaring on the side of the freeway, no detector will save you. The BEST it will do is be a "you're getting a ticket" alarm.
Cops these days have such amazing tech for their Radar. And have actually banned even PASSIVE kits in most states. I used to use Escort's Shifter kit that blinded incoming radar. OP if you're going to look into a jammer or blinder, I'd be incredibly careful. If it blocks an incoming radar, the cop will run second attempt (so you better have kill switch you can hit within maybe 2 seconds tops) if he gets another one jammed you'll get pulled over. And you'd better hope the judge doesn't "make an example out of you". The fines are pretty hefty and you can even do jail time. Will you do jail time, INCREDIBLY unlikelyyyyyy!
