M6 or 650i both in convertible
Contemplating buying a 2014 650i convertible or 2014 M6 convertible. Wondering a few things, primarily, is it worth 18K more for the M6. I am not taking this car to the track so I do not need monster HP but do want sports car power. I have a 2013 S550 now that I love but looking for something more sporty. Is insurance more on the M6? Do they feel dramatically different? The 650I is the sport m model so just wondering what the big differences are. This will be my DD so I do want something that is great on the freeway as well.

Better suspension, better transmission, way more power. Sounds better and looks better. May be too much for some. If you won't paddle shift and just want to cruise, the 650 is more than capable.

I would choose the M6 as well, but, worse mpg, more things that can break, some are oil burners (like mine), rotors very expensive, more traffic tickets, more decisions (3 settings for tranny, steering, suspension and throttle, plus 3 traction control settings. Program those M buttons!

After taking an M3 for a long drive today I am convinced it is probably not the car for me. Great power but the DCT is not designed for basic street duty. This car is probably more at home on a track. The other thing that bugged me was the loud look at me boy racer exhaust. It is cool for a while and then it is just obnoxious. Maybe it is my age (50) but this car is just not refined enough for me and probably overkill for what I want. Plus I can get a nice 650i for a ton less.

Is the standard M6 exhaust that much louder than other 6ers? Yes, if you drive it hard and get it revved up, it probably is! I guess it's horses for courses, so I wish you luck with a 650, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. For the moment, I'm sticking with the M6, and I'm a bit older than you! |

"Whilst DCT is probably not designed for basic street duty" I call BS on this. I have owned 4 cars with DCT and I drove them everyday to work, 22 miles each way on mixed roads. Plus I am 56. Its a driver issue. If you want a slushbox, get one and let it shift for you. If you want a manual without a clutch, get a dct and shift yourself. I manual mode 99% of the time (and on 3, the hardest setting). If you let it shift itself it can have issues at slow speeds.
