Front number plate mount
I just thought I'd share this, picked up my new F06 a few weeks ago, but here in the UK BMW do not supply a reg / number plate backing for the front, crazy as it just looked awful without it, so after an extensive search and testing, found the correct part and now very happy! It now looks finished and how it should be, cant believe BMW would leave this out, especially on the 6 series.
I know its a minor "thing", but it really bugged the hell out of me, so here are pics of the installed backing plate. |

Indeed, I was struggling with this myself as it just looks wrong on a M-Sport spec cars bumper without this.
As Darms mentioned, it would be helpful if you could kindly share the part number |

Don't go for this part number 51137224771 as it's the backing plate for cars in China and it's a totally different size etc. Won't work with UK cars

Spoke with the service manager yesterday for mine, he is going to order it for me (with no cost , probably the benefit for being known well after some issues).
Interestingly we had a walk past their stock currently of 6's as they have a 2 x 640d's (F12 and F13), 1 x M6 F12, 1 x 650i F12 - the M6 and 650i had them, the 640d's one had the mount the other did not. There appears no constant theme for them at all, I have suspicion that they are included in PDI, some cars get them fitted by more attentive staff others do not fit them. |

Well I have mine and tried to mount it like yours, but I discovered it was about 2-3mm too short to get the screw in.
How did you get around that? |

I'm so glad you've shared this post because like you, this has been one of my annoyances with the front of my F06.
My car was supplied with a super thin plate which the dealer just screwed directly to the bumper but when I got my private plate I didn't want to drill it as it is a German style metal pressed plate. So I opted for a cheapo ebay surround which although doesn't look that bad, I'd much prefer the plinth you've shown with the metal plate stuck on the front with 3M. Just ordered the part no from Williams Manchester, so cheers for that one. See attached the original plate vs what I have now (also my modified kidney grilles). |

Thanks for the photos.
It is same in Hong Kong no number plate holder I ordered my too because I need to install my 3D number plate in the front. with out the holder I think the 3D numbers will fall off because of the odd shape bumper.
