My M6 I have not added one single drop, when I took it in for the 1200 break-in service it was still reading near max. After 2900 or so its till tight as a virgin and still screaming and begging me to push the damn accelerator through the floorboard!

I did baby it and follow the instructions to the T on break in so your milage may very with your choice of driving it like you stole it!

No one is advocating driving it like you stole it lol . I'm advocating a deliberate controlled break in process where you frequently go up to 5500 rpm and let the engine braking slow the car . This is what the manual says by the way . The only thing I do different is once warm do utilize full throttle as this is important to seat the rings for maximum power and decreased oil consumption from "blowby" ( oil escaping around the piston ring and being taken up by the crankcase vent and combusted ) . The idiots going around at 2k with cruise control on , or on the other end of the spectrum redlining it while cold are the ones burning the most oil .

I just had to add the 4th quart and I've only got 6500, think its time to take it in cause this is ridiculous.

I don't want to jinx myself, but I haven't had to add a single drop to my M6. I have a little over 3,000 miles on it so far. I wasn't hard on it during break-in, but I didn't baby it either.

Yes, I am pretty satisfy with my 650GC, it is luxury fast and provide me tractions no matter winter or summer because it is Xdrive. However, I just can't get pass on the engine oil top off issue. Whenever I am driving it, I am afraid of the engine oil warning will on. Just passed 6300kms but I have already had 3 times low engine oil warnings.
I know I am not driving a M car, so I rarely push it hard, even never done a full throttle, but it is just burning engine oil like drinking water. Even my dealer give me free engine oil top off always, but it just lets me feel annoying.
I hate to drive it to dealer always, and tell service guy " come on man, I ran out of my engine oil."
Maybe, this gonna be the best reason for myself to switch to M6 GC, if you guys don't experience the same thing.
It boils down too the first 50 miles of driving IMO.
The "Hard brake-in" has been controversial , but all who have used this method have cars which use little or no Oil.
I have used this on the following three cars: F10 550i M Sport : E90 M3: and now the F10 LCI M5. the first two NO oil used, this one at 2900 miles No Oil used.

Method, warm engine Oil fully then not exceeding 5.5K RPM work the engine in lower gears up and down letting the gearbox slow you down, you get the "suck and blow effect" on the rings which is what it needs to seal them early , repeat 10 or so times ( on empty roads) and then go by the book.
All should be good.

Just passed 5500 miles, oil changed at 1200, so 4300 miles and 1/4 quart low. I'm happy compared to the M5 which used a quart every 1500 mlles. Keeping my fingers crossed. Followed break-in procedure.

These pattens when a car is broken in properly wear evenly and push against the piston ring forming a "seal" during the combustion cycle . If this doesn't occur in those first few miles ( by a proper break in) the pattern will wear and this process can not occur later bc the patten on the cylinder is already worn down ( usually unevenly ) . Then you get massive oil blowby around the rings especially under hard use in the future . Easy break in = loss of compression /oil consumption for the life of the engine .
Absolutely correct, no amount of miles after initial 20/100 miles hardish use will stop it using lots of Oil.
