Headlights question - please help

Hi All

I have a question regarding my headlights. I have the full adaptive led headlights on my 2014 640i GC.

When my lights are on auto is there a way to turn off the tiny orange light at the top outer of the headlight? See attached pic.

I have never seen orange lights like these tiny ones before one any of the other bmws I have seen?

Also the bottom strip of lights down in the front bumper - even when hitting the fog light button mine don't turn on??

I think there is a way to turn it off with CPU coding. As for the bottom strip they are turn signals (amber) and only turn on when you signal.

The bottom lights in the bumper are fog lights, but won't turn on unless headlights are on (not just halos) and not if full beam is on I think.

I'm with Paul...that is a unique light compared to my 2015 US car. i don't have nor ever noticed another car with the little orange light.

when my headlights are on at night (auto or not) then i can turn on those foglights. in the dashboard, there's a green indicator next to the headlight indicator to show the foglights are on. when the headlights aren't on, again, in my US car, i can turn the light switch to the first notch on the right of center for parking lamps, and then also turn on my foglights at that point

Don't all US cars have orange running lights on them? I thought so anyway.

Anyway, my 2012 has these too (UK car) but they can be coded off. I like them, quite different to see the lights in the UK.

Yes. The orange side-markers are a US thing and can be coded on or off. So can fog lights with high-beams.

Headlights

i think there was an update in the LED headlights after the facelift in 2015..I also have 640i GC 2014 and was told that these are not yet the "intelligent" lights..

How intelligent are they now? My LEDs have the adaptive and corner lighting, that's pretty intelligent

In North America, the coding has not been completely figured out on some series and it still ends up Glaring other drivers. There are multiple components to the complex algorithms that play into the HBA (on-off), NGHB (tunneling), and Variable Light Distribution (VLD).

Additionally, there are the current adaptive LED headlights and then the potentially more advanced laser lights.

No. Pre-LCI headlamps are not capable of Selective Beam functions due to their physical design.

The 5er LCI coding issue is completely different from a Pre LCI 6er. The Main (High Beams) do not have the necessary reflector optics. Both inner and outer lower chambers are full beam lamps. There is no testing of coding methods needed for Pre-LCI 6er and attempts to enable Selective Beam create a significant hazard to other motorists.
