Hope It Won't Happen Again

I've had my 2014 GC 640i for 3 months now and must admit it is the best car I've ever owned (Prior BMWs, Jag, Lexus, Mercedes, Infiniti, Range Rover) Period! But...something weird happened yesterday. Started my car after a short stop to the store and the new digital dash didn't light up...Nothing. Restarted the car 3 times and nothing illuminated. The NAV worked and so did the "heads up display" - luckily so I could see my speed -but nothing for the 10min ride home. Strange. When I started the car the next morning everything was back to normal. I will chaulk this up to a computer booting glitch. We'll see.... I like the look of the new digital dash but sometimes car manufacturers can go overboard with the electronics...unnecessarily. Anybody else experience this...???????

Might be a bug. if u have a scanner, scan it to see if it throws codes if u dont bring it back to dealer get it checked asap or the next time the car wont have a next time! (Wont start)

Hope this doesnt surface again - I would go in to the dealer and request a full software update.

Do you have an iPhone connected to your car??? Since I got my IPhone 5, when connected to my X6; my car is acting up once in a while. For example as I'm driving it will open all my windows a sunroof and I won't be able to close them until I turn my car off and start it again after disconnecting iPhone or the car will change stations by it self. Never had that problem with my iPhone 4.

No, I do not have my iphone 5 plugged in. I use the Bluetooth for phone and I have an iPod connected for music. Sounds redundant but I have an iPod that is laying around so I decided to use it in the car.

With that said, since the first glitch it hasn't happened again (knock on wood).

The satnav on my 6GC reset unexpectedly twice in the last 2 weeks while driving. No loss of control, the digital display and HUD was fine, but the centre console switched off and on again in a few seconds.

Didn't think it was a biggie but took the car in for a software update and they have rung back to say they are replacing the head unit as a precaution as it is a new car.

Also find out the reason the car doesn't recognise the iPhone 5 / 4S is because I have the wrong kind of Y cable - apparently the simple y cable without the in built electronics is the kind I need.

I've had this same problem twice now. Car operates fine but the display says NO SIGNAL - goes blank then restarts! Anyone else?

Going to see my dealer tomorrow.

Mine has done this twice in the month that I've owned it. It looks like the Nav unit crashes causing it to cold restart as I get the initial nav boot up screen. The audio from the DAB radio was gone while it restarted. The HUD and Multifunction display are not affected.

The woes of being early adopters

Mine is back in with the dealer. The rear door soft close motor is leaving the door open sometimes :/ And the lid to the cup holder has become stuck, very lucky it didn't happen when my key was in there :O

Exactly the same. Seeing my dealer today - they have already asked me what mods I've done.....none yet

This is obviously an OEM issue - I count 3 here with the same prob.

Picking up my car today - the CCC module was replaced ( a 30-min job evidently once the part was brought in ) and the car re-programmed. Coming up to its 2nd month anniversary

Did you have DVD in motion? My dealer asked me to uninstall and see if it happens after that. They have no clue why it happened so are pointing the finger at that.

I have not made any coding modifications - no DVD in motion.
During PDI stage, the dealership's master technician activated several features from the hidden menu at my request but that was not an issue.

So they did not argue, and replaced the CCC module as a precaution

I have the F13 M6 and my sat nav has restarting while driving about 15 times. The audio, Bluetooth, and nav all restart. Very annoying and dangerous when volume comes back on at full level.

What should I ask my dealer to do? Replace the screen or is there a computer unit that needs to be replaced?

My dealer is ordering a new CIC/CCC or whatever the brain is called - they have no idea why it resets.

Seems BMW has an issue here?!?!

I had another iDrive re-boot today, I think this is the 4th time. Has anyone who had their cic's replaced encountered this since the swap?
