Painted Brake Calipers

I came across this photo of a 640i GC with factory brake calipers painted in black. Does anyone out there have factory calipers that are painted? I am considering painting mine (which are currently silver).

Any suggestions on caliper color for a Citrin Black / Platinum interior car?

I've noticed (at least on US versions) that M-sport comes with black calipers and non-M-sport comes with silver.

Same as in Hong Kong. I painted mine black. Should have painted it black chrome to match my liquid black 356s

The 650i GC that I picked up in February came from the lot the same way. The front brake calipers are pretty big and painted black. The rear calipers are smaller that the fronts, but they are painted black as well. It would seem this option is standard if you opt for the ///M Sport package, so if you choose, I am sure you can have this upgrade done at your BMW Dealership.

Mine comes with black like the photo. I think yellow caliper is nice with black paint. I am planning to DIY painting them once they fix "Drivetrain Malfunction" issue.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Besides black and yellow, any thoughts on other colors? Would red look too cliche and tacky?

IMO red calipers are nice on regular black but Citrin Black with glitter should be better with yellow. Try photoshop it first.

I will plasti dip my wheels, paint calipers, and look for a nice front lip once they fix engine issue.

Ok. Will photoshop a few samples before settling on the final color.

I think yellow calipers would compliment the citrin black quite nicely.

Just my 0.02 and I hope it doesn't offend anyone that's already painted their OEM calipers.

Please don't. It looks cheap. The OEM BMW calipers are a bit too small, and if you paint them (esp. something gaudy like red or yellow) it cheapens the look of the car. Makes you look like one of those Hyundai Velosters with painted red calipers. Like a 6er owner with a major Napoleonic complex. Not a good thing in my opinion.

Either stick with the OEM color, or upgrade to a BBK.

Either way, enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the honest opinion ipsedixit. I too was concerned about making the car look cheap. Will retain the stock look or painted black at most.

In terms of upgrading to a BBK, I have no experience with that and also have not come across any that is compatible to my car configuration due to the adaptive drive or IAS I was told (not sure whether it is true). Any recommendations would be most welcome.

Yeah, I don't know about your situation, but with me, while I was tempted to get a BBK, I didn't because it would void the maintenance (and free pads and lines are nice to have for 4 years) and it disables the emergency brakes.

Not sure about a BBK disabling adaptive drive or IAS. First I've heard of this.

Cheers.

My M Sport came with black calipers, too. I remember seeing someone's car with black calipers with a white/gray "///M" logo on them. It looked pretty good, and I kinda remember him saying the car came that way.

If we're having a poll here, I'm in favor if a subtle black - apparent yet understated. I like the red and yellow on some cars - Ferraris, Porsches, M6s (in bold colors) - but a beautiful Citrin Black 6er seems more elegant than overtly sporty.

Just my opinion...

Exactly. I have my calipers painted. But only in black. Ideally, I would like to have the brake calipers in black chrome to match my liquid black 356s. But ended up with jet black as black chrome like paint was not available for calipers.....

Oh, mine is Ruby Black......

Thanks for the further input Southern and mlai.

Consensus is reached. Black caliper paint it is for a Citrin Black 6'er with an elegant luxury profile.

Would anyone be kind enough to post some pics of your stock or painted calipers on this thread?

I'm on my phone, so I can't upload right now. If you look at my video from 06/09/2012 (on my YouTube Channel) "650xi Coupe Exterior Pictures Gallery" at 1:08 there's a good caliper shot.

"Picture Gallery - Inside and Exterior Pics" at 1:17 (dated 03/31/12) also has a good shot.

Here's mine painted black. Picture from cellphone in garage under not very optimal lighting. They look a little gray due to the brake dust (see the inner barrel of the wheel), and also because the black chrome of the LB 356 is too eye catchy.......
