Maybe. However, the 850i is rumored to debut a new 4.0L V8. If this is the case it is possible that M has used that as the basis for a new engine to appear in the M8. This would definitely represent an accelerated timeline for M engine development. However, given how early we are being shown this M8 prototype, it appears the entire car is on an accelerated timeline. So I think it's possible we get a new engine rather than yet another application of the S63B44. |

I am at Villa Erba right now and they have BMW GT Coupes in a line within the forum here that was used for the unveiling of the new 8 Series Concept.
The lineup ends at the E31 850CSi. They also have the E31 M8 here and believe it's the first time it actually left Munich. This is all planned and the M8 is very real. |

The 8 series is a big body GT (just take a look at the 8 series Concept), just like the e31 was. 8 series=2 door version of the 7 series=S Class Coupe competitor. But, my guess is that it will be lighter due to the use of carbon fiber. |

These rumors, as I've noted before, make no sense. This is not least because with the entire "Z" namespace wide open, there is absolutely no reason to shoehorn a sports car into the "6" lineup. Furthermore, the business case for building such a car to begin with does not appear to exist. BMW went as far as to pair up with Toyota to make the case to carry on their existing Z4 sports car. And now they are going to leap all in on what would effectively be a super car in the 911 class? No. It has all the makings of media sensationalism to get clicks or someone's BMW wet dream. Quote:

Whatever bros... there's a method to that madness you know. As far as I'm concerned I am HAPPY to wait " so late " - typically one year while they work out bugs in the lower models first, because generally the rest of the car is excellent by then. |

It's called an 8 series for a reason. Now, IF it is smaller than an S Class coupe when the 8 series comes out, that begs the question of what it is competing against? The Lexus LC500/LC-F? And E Class Coupe? If they called it a 6 series, which was still not a sports car (even in M6 guise) but a Gran Turismo car and was hefty, we'd be wowed. And say that it was such a visual departure from last gen 6 series and the 5 series. |

I'm kind of shocked reading half of these comments regarding this teaser footage. It clearly says "M8" and from BMW themselves... Why aren't people more excited?! A big 2 door with loads of toys, and the motor to go with it.
Hey BMW- Where do I sign up?

So the 6 series will become the ugly wagon hatchback? Great way to confuse customers even more. And who knows what the Z car will be called, and that will possibly be a 911 competitor? This would due to the fact that the Supra would effectively be the same, just not as luxurious. |

I should note here, with the benefit of trying to keep on topic to boot, that the 8 Series four (or perhaps five) door model is likely to retain the graceful form of the outgoing 6GC. Quote:
