M6 steel brakes - opinions

Hi everyone,

I'm new here so please excuse me if this has been brought up but I wanted to get some opinion on the M6 steel brakes. I just purchased mine with about 2,000 miles. I've noticed the brakes are not very sensitive and that there isn't a lot of feel to them. I've tried a couple of emergency braking and they don't seem to be that responsive.

Compared to my other vehicles - R35 GTR, Cayenne with Carbon Ceramics and A45 AMG (steel) - the M6 is terrible. I am quite surprised they are M brakes.

This is my first M and so I don't know if this is the norm or I have a problem. Could some of you let me know your thoughts?

Thanks.

Garage List
I cannot compare to the other cars you mentioned, but my '14 M6 CP has pretty good brakes. Not the best I've ever driven, but very good, as good as the E92 M3 it replaced. I've done some very hard track days with the M6 and been very impressed by the brakes in general. Very even engagement, good feedback, minimal fade even after being abused all day on the track, etc... Maybe not quite as good as some of the Ferraris I've driven, but then again the M6 is a lot heavier.

I would never think to describe my M6's brakes as anything close to "terrible". Might be worth a dealer visit.

Thanks guys. Is the bedding in process required?

I actually just had its first service and the dealer didn't pick up any issues with it. On normal driving its ok but if I have to pull up quick at a stop light for example, it doesn't seem to do well. It isn't responsive and has a numb feeling. I haven't done a complete hard stop so I'll try that and see.

I have never had the same issue with my M6 but just keep in mind this is a 4200 lb car! Don't expect her to stop right after slamming on the brake...

For what it's worth the steel brakes on my M6 are far superior to the steel brakes on my gran turismo

Ok so I tried a few emergency type braking today and the car seems not to be as bad as I imagined. It will stop but I am just not used to the 'numb' feeling. For those who have an AMG or used to the PCCB on Cayenne's, you will know what I mean. Just needs getting used to like the accelerator pedal!

Grand Touring car..... its a Pig at 4200 pounds. The vert is 4500 pounds. When considering the weight of the car, I think the brakes perform quite well.

Now in my 997.1 Turbo, the braking is as sharp and brutal as can be. But that's what that car was designed for. Street car that can be driven straight onto a track to be beaten up, then drive back home.

Ceramic brakes have a very strong pedal and sensitive feel.. the M6 Blue brakes are not like this.. They have a soft pedal feel at the top.. BUT, they work excellent.. Also, you will want the brake pads to warm up a little before it feels like they work better.. cold brakes always feel dull.. You blue brakes are fine, and totally normal description of steel brakes.. your stopping will be the same as the ceramic, just push hard and trust them.. cheers!

I also bled my own brakes 2 in once month to get every little air bubble out, mine feel much better than stock, I also added stainless lines which also gave better feel.. however nothing comes close to the ceramic feel.. but the blues will do the job well...
