I've gotten thumbs up from several people, and comments from folks at gas stations. I used to have a bright red MB C300 in Sport trim (AMG wheels and tires, that sort of thing) that I had people going out of their way to come over and compliment, though, which is something I haven't seen in the 6.

I do like, guiltily, the feeling of seeing a line of cookie cutter econoboxes on the highway, and knowing that there is only 1 other car in the entire world that's the same as mine.

There does seem to be something inherently exclusive and special about this car. Sure, $100k elevates it to that level, but people seem to respond differently to this car than they would to a 911, S Class, SL, 7 Series, or even an M5. Sure, people in the know see an M5 and know what that badge means - same goes for a Carrera Turbo - but everyone seems to respect the F12/13 for its styling and presence. I'm not saying a 650i is "better" than a 911 Turbo or even a Carrera S, but those cars get noticed because "oh, that's a Porsche" (could be a Cayman, Boxster, or Carrera - who knows?). The bulkiness yet sleekness of the car really set it apart, and I doubt few people have ever looked at it and thought, "is that a 328i?"

I know I'm biased - I have a lot of respect for Porsches, Mercs, and the M5. I just think there's something to this generation of the 6 Series that elevates it above the typical clinical German-ness of other cars in the same price bracket.

A common question I've gotten the last few is "What series is that!?" Guess its weird when they see 4 doors

the worst however is when they answer it themselves

"Woah is that the new 6 series!? The one with 4 doors right?"
I just want to throw a rock at their head when they ask me if my car has 4 doors.

Here is a story from the other side.

I was looking at a white 640 gran coupe today at the car wash, I was just peeking through the window to see what the platinum interior looked liked and the owner happens to walk up. I asked him how he liked the car and I couldn't believe how arrogant he was, he was trying to tell me in his own words that I would never be able to afford one and I shouldn't worry about it. He didn't even answer the question. I just turned around and walked off. I was actually more dressed up today than usual in a sport coat and slacks, but I guess I still looked too poor to be able to purchase a 6 series ;-).

The car wash manager was chuckling behind him while listening to this since he knew I owned a gran coupe.

Some people don't deserve to have a car.

I know what you mean. Back in college 15 years ago, I couldn't even afford a car, and 1 day my buddy let me drive his E36 328i coupe because he was having hangover. Since then, that has been the reason I wake up and work hard everyday.

How utterly rude! Would have loved to see his face when you pull out of the wash in your 650 GC.

Serves that 640 GC owner right if he was pushing his car through a machine.

I will admit I am pretty lazy, I take my car there about once a week or once every two weeks for them to hand wash it. Although I do send my wife's lexus through the machine.

I made a sign to hang on my mirror when I take my car in for service that reads, "Please do not wash or clean this car, inside or out." I cringe at the thought of those sudsy, spongy things brushing against my Carbon Black paint. Once a year might be fine, but they've had my car 4 times in the last 4 months. I'd need serious therapy to cope with that many machine washes. I found the sign was simpler than asking. I hate to be "that guy," but i can't help it. It's just easier to let them see the very obvious sign rather than hoping the message gets passed along.

I just attached a piece of string and keep it stashed in the case with the manual so I've always got it - for when the unexpected drivetrain malfunction warning arises

Yesterday a beautiful red F430 Spider pulls up next to me at a stoplight and the driver looks over, gives me the thumbs up, I roll down my passenger side window and compliment him on his car and he says, "hey, how about a trade?" and I say, "Only, if you throw in a daily driver ..."
