My seat squeak does not go away when I lean forward. My squeak sounds like it is coming from the bottom of the seat

Last night was the first time my passenger seat started making noise like a squeaky/rattling sound.

I'm not sure if the problem has always been there because normally, if I drive, I have a passenger so it is possible that their weight killed the noise...?

I haven't driven the car in about two weeks, so when I took her out last night, I was a little disappointed to hear the seat making all that noise.

I noticed that if I put a little pressure with my hand on the back rest of the seat, the sound goes away.... until I take my hand off that is.

This may be a silly question, but has anyone here tried simply re-positioning the seat to see if the noise stops...? That will be my first attempt to "fix" this before I have to take her into the service center.

I have tried everything to make the squeak stop, including having my dealer take the seat apart, and nothing has fixed it. It's so bad that I can barely stand to drive the car.

has anyone got their seat fixed??
I took my car to the dealer last monday to fix my squeaky sear and my service guy told me that BMW kept on sending wrong part to fix the seat. Today was the 3rd attempt. I told them just give me back the car because obviously they just don't know what they are doing....this is very frustrating.....

I had this initially with the drivers seat and my tech figured it out with the wear marks on the bottom bracket. At that time there was no fix so he modified the bracket and took pictures which he sent in to BMW. My passenger seat does it too so now there are new brackets that are available. Have them check the parts for wear marks it is easy since they are black and when worn are shiny steel.

I have now brought my car into the service center twice to fix the defective driver's seat. I thought that they would fix this defect the next time I bring my car in; however, it will be the time before I return the car under the CA lemon law. I have brought my car in multiple times without it being fixed, and being returned to me with immense damage to it.

Below is a description of some of the damage to my car.
Driver's Seat leather damaged and needs to be replaced. Need entirely new drivers seat with leather and frame. Damage to leather on side bolster and back of seat. Defective seat frame.

Driver's chrome colored seatbelt covering (where belt connects to top of seat) damaged. Also was delivered with a gap and now the housing will not snap back together may be broken. New chrome covering at a minimum.

Leather side panel of center console on Driver's side extremely damaged. Need new leather panel as the leather is completely gashed.

Black plastic surrounding Driver's m6 lighted running board damaged with gash. Need new running board piece.

Driver's black plastic kick plate on the inside damaged. Leather piece connected to it also damaged. Need new plastic piece and leather panel.

Rear seat, driver's side leather side panel near armrest damaged. Need new leather panel as leather is gashed from removing the seat.

Rear seat, driver's side carbon fiber trim damaged directly above where leather is gashed. They must have scraped the seat along both.

Grease all over the inside of the car. (attached picture showing the grease on the SOS panel). Car came back filthy.

Passenger seat side bolster leather needs to be tightened correctly.

I am extremely disappointed and saddened by the damage that the service department caused. Why would I pay $140,000 for a new 2013 M6 when I could just buy a used one that has scratches and leather gashes for $90,000? I saw the damage before I even sat down in the car after I got my keys and waiting for it to be pulled up to the service drive. Did they expect that I wouldn't notice? How could they care so little about my brand new M6? I am shocked Irvine BMW just gave me the keys to my car and sent me on my way without telling me of all the damage.

My service advisor Gary said that they fixed the seat defect and no longer heard a squeak. The only thing is….the seat squeaks louder now than ever before! It starts making noise the sect you sit down and squeaks constantly as you drive down the road. This car is not a Honda civic, its a BMW M6. I have tried many times to get this problem fixed and I shouldn't be dealing with this for so long. Its embarrassing when I have passengers in the car, is annoying to drive with and may even be the root of a safety issue with the seat frame.

Spencer what dealership did you use? Call BMW NA and file a complaint. Absolutely horrible work.

My car has been in twice for this issue, initial time they tightened some bolts, and said they would look into the problem. Second time they replaced the seat pan, which is the fix that BMW is offering for this issue. After the fourth day of replacing the pan the squeak is back. Going to see what they can do a third time, but this is ridiculous.

They sent new pans for my seats but the real fix was bending the edge of the bracket which is what causes the squeak. They need to redesign to mounting bracket.

Anyone had this issue coming from inside the backrest in the multifunction seats, not under the seat?

Seat Squeak!!

Hi Noushy

The Comfort seat squeak has appeared with a vengeance on my 6 month old M6 F12
So far they have replaced the air bag [ to no avail] and are now ordering a new seat frame as they cannot detect what is causing it.
As someone else had mentioned it only appears when you rest your back on the backrest and reduces/disappears when you lean forward.

Would you be able to send a photo or diagram of how your BMW techs solved it as I fear I am about to enter the same Groundhog Day round of dealer visits? It would be great if the problem was the same and definitely worth using your solution I would guess. Many thanks!!

My dealership solved my '14 Coupe driver seat squeak by putting some foam padding under the plastic panel around the controls. However it only lasted about 2 months, and now it's squeaking again and back in the shop Hopefully they can fix it permanently this time.

I've had both "seat pans" replaced in my car. First was the driver side and a few months later the passenger side. The original seat pan is weak and they have a revised seat pan out that corrects the squeak/rattling problem. The entire seat must come out and be dissembled. My dealer did this under warranty.

I've been experimenting with all the seat controls to see if I could change the noise - even 'exercising' the seat angle up and down to try to get the friction spot to wear itself out!
The only thing that works is if I position the seat closer to the pedals - silence is blissful even if I am more crouched in!
Anyone any ideas what it may be that has this signature??

I'm a little late in here but over here in the UK we established the squeak/rattle noise was most likely the inertia reel of your seatbelt which is mounted underneath the seat. The fix is simply to pack the area around it with foam. I have a 2012 F13 and have never had this particular problem though I know many here have. Instead I have had other seat knocking woes. It's all just poor design.

Anyone know if the squeaks were fixed in later model's - 14/15 or 16 - or are they being reported even in the 16's?
