I just got my new 2014 M6 Manual with carbon ceramic brakes. Most cars I have owned were all manual other than my Lambo its E gear. No way near the fun to drive as the manual especially this M 6 you play with the clutch and shifter and drop the clutch and poof!!!!!!!!! Tire Smoke all over. I had Many perf motorcycles as well and same thing. I would never have ordered one with E Gear.

Hi folks!

Been lurking on this board on and off for a few years. Fell in love with the Gran Coupe ever since I saw the concept photo a few years back. Pulled the trigger and placed the order a few days ago, so I figured it was time to join. This thread seems to be a good place to introduce myself, so here it is:

M6 GC

Silverstone
Black Extended Merino Leather (reserve the right to change to full)
Carbon Fiber Trim
343M Wheels (I realize most prefer the 433's, but I prefer the 343's)
Driver Assistance Plus
Executive Package
B&O Sound
Night Vision (hopefully will detect the many deer where we live)
Enhanced USB & Bluetooth plus Smartphone Integration
Performance Center Delivery
and, of course, MANUAL TRANSMISSION!!

In fact, the ability to get a manual was the reason my wife and I decided not to get a new CLS. Now she can have the existing one pretty much all to herself.

Salesman said he has to get rid of most or all M6's on the lot before he can get allocation to order mine. You would think an MT order does not compete with his existing stock, but whatever. As long as I can get it before November.

Incidentally, he checked his online production info, and, according to him, there is only one U.S. '15 M6 (don't remember if it is a regular coupe or a GC) that currently has a production number. The lucky fellow or lady supposedly ordered it from a So Cal dealer.

Manual for me as well. sheer pleasure with the monster engine and power! When they stop offering manual it's the day I stop spending huge amounts of money on cars! BTW M235 manual on the way to compliment the M6 manual.

Great info, Richard. I've seen may of your posts, and I definitely trust your info over any dealer salesperson I've met over here.

BTW, Templarklimek, it was your comments in different threads about getting your car sent from Miami to Houston and the other info you and others provided about BMW possibly stopping manuals in the upper range models that made me want to act. Originally, I was going to get a 650i with a manual, and they stopped that after what, one year or so? I didn't want to miss out again.

Richard, if you have any more accurate information, then I'm all ears.

I'm not sure of future plans, but I think it's likely that manual gearboxes will disappear on the more powerful cars, the only question is when.

There is no doubt that fewer M6 GC have been made for the US market in March then pretty much ay other month, although generally not many have been made in 2014. It may be that more will be made in April to make up for it.

This is the plot of USA/Canada daily production up to 21st March.

BMW has confirmed that this will be the last M6 they will offer with a manual. Making it last of the breed. They tried that with previous version of M6 but Americans complained enough for them to add the manual option.

I wonder what the LCI will offer for the M6? LED gauges and what else. I would be tempted if they offer some more upgrades at that time. I'd love to see a "lightweight type package" Manual recaro typr sets, rear seat delete(it's tiny anyways) really leight weight 19 inch rims etc. Shave 200 pounds from the and with 580ish HP.

Although a very interesting idea on a "CSL" type M6, I'd say it's highly unlikely. Interestingly enough, something like this was done for the E60 M5 as a one-off or very limited project, if I remember correctly. But sadly, for BMW's increasingly profit driven mentality, this wouldn't seem to be something they would go for on the M6. I'd say it's more likely to happen for the M4 as they did for the E46 M3 with the CSL and for the E92 M3 with the GTS.

As much as I would want a manual M6, NJ and NY traffic is just horrible. I used to drive stick years ago but switched to automatic after getting very tired of shifting non-stop in bad traffic.

New to the site guys so hi.

I've just ordered a MY15 GC, Tanzanite Blue Metallic, Amaro Brown interior, Executive and Competition Packages, Manual. Because I specifically wanted a manual I had to order it. Manual is important to me as it just makes me feel 'closer' to the car.

Taking ED the first week of June so the wait starts. :-)

Agreed! Today's cars getting far and far from that feeling. In near future they will drive by themselves . I'm not against technology, but to me car is not a tool or an object to make my life easier... Car and driving a car are fun

I've now had the car for near on 6 months and the manual experience is a big part of what makes this car so special. A couple of things really. It's not about the top end performance because on the roads nowadays it's not easy to test out how the car cruises at 130 mph in 6th gear. It's more about how the car performs at the lower speeds in direct relation to the speed that you're doing and the gear that you're in, which you can control being a MT car. For example, I very rarely have used 5th or 6th gear. I tend to use 3rd and 4th, even when I'm cruising at 80/85/90 mph, and the control that gives me for a quick burst of acceleration is unbelievable. There is no better feeling than cruising at 85/90 in 4th gear and then quickly upshifting to 3rd and gunning it. It's like a rocket ship. Also, conversely, the engine braking effect is amazing when approaching a curve at, say, 70 in 4th and then downshifting to 3rd or even 2nd. Taking that curve with minimal or no brakes is amazing and hearing that engine noise. Wow.

I also find the 'natural' braking power of the car when in 4th or 3rd at high revs is something I've never experienced before. Just by easing off the gas, without applying the brakes, gives an amazing de-acceleration experience. The car will reduce speed by 15/20/25 mph, you can see it counting down, in a matter of seconds. Perfect for when the Valentine detector starts beeping at me.

This is some amazing car and, for me, the MT is a huge part of my enjoyment. I'm experimenting with this every day.

I have a question for you. The DCT has a kind of engine protection when you reach the red line in Sequential mode (Manual mode) and cut the engine off until you upshift and this feature is bothering me especially when I'm in straight line flooring the gas and M view is not ON. I didn't have this experience with my old MT cars. Does your M6 MT do the same thing?

M6-Coupe. Yes, there is protection if your revs go into red line. I'm kind of used to this as it would also happen in my E39 MT M5. With the M6 though it seems to happen a lot less frequently and I think that's because the red line ratio in each gear is high enough that, naturally, you want to change gear before you hit that point anyway. It's all about the torque of the car which is exceptional. In my M5, redline seemed to be reached very quickly, especially in 1st and 2nd gears, but with the M6 there just seems to be so much more power transmitted to the wheels, and the efficiency of getting to the higher speeds quickly without redlining is amazing. I hope all that makes sense.

I do have the competition package so that may make a difference. I know with Super-Sport turned on for steering, suspension and engine dynamics the performance is phenomenal.

Thanks sir. I don't know why it happens to me! with MT my body feels the red line and when I have to change the gear, but with DCT not. Doesn't make sense at all... I did test drive an MT M3(F80) the other day and I knew when to change the gear even though the car was completely new for me and I had no previous experience with that car, but after 15 months driving my M6, still I have no idea when I have to change the gear unless I look at the M View or instrument cluster...

Just grabbed a 6MT as well. Probably wouldn't have been my choice if I ordered the vehicle, but it was off of the showroom floor and was heavily discounted so I gave it a try and have come to appreciate it. I've had 3 750's automatics before the M6 so it's quite a change. Definitely been missing out!

Ordered DCT because of traffic. Now used to it and could not imagine going back. Lightning fast shift when semi-manually shifting with luxury of quick switch over when approaching population.

Absolutely love mine, too. I wish the center trim were carbon fiber like the automatics, though.
