640i Oil consumption

Hi All,
Having had 6 cyl BMW diesels for the past 3 years I'm a bit out of touch with what's normal for petrol engines.
I've just traded in my F10 535d for a 1 year old F12 640i with 1300 miles on it. I've now covered 1k miles and the oil level has dropped just under a quarter off the full mark, but the indicator is still showing green.
Can anyone tell me what the normal oil consumption is, at what level the indicator changes colour and whether it tells you how much oil to add?
I just knew I'd miss my diesel dipstick .
Many thanks,
Jon

Wow- I was just coming in to research this very question. I've got a 2012 650, and though I've only got 5,700 miles on since April, I've now had to put 2 quarts of oil in.

I know turbos cook oil, but do they drink it that fast? Definitely a question for the service guys when they fix my seat.

After a quick search of the internets, seems it's not at all uncommon, at least for the V8s. 1 quart every 3300 miles seems to be about average. Bet no one factors that into the total cost of ownership!

Had to add a quart at around 4500 miles to my 650i. No cost though. Just pulled into my local freindly BMW service center - they poured one in - and I drove out.

Thanks guys, but it's the 640i I'm asking about; it's a straight six as opposed to your V8s and I think the oil burning characteristics are different.
Cheers anyway

Jon, replied to your PM. I shouldn't worry at this stage, as an engine will often use oil in the bed-in stage. IMO, 1,300 miles is not enough to get the engine to optimum sealing.
