2007 M6 SMG issue

Hi guys! I'm new to this forum so any help is greatly appreciated!!
just this morning I am having issues with the smg gearbox in my 2007 M6, the car starts up fine and when I try to put it in gear the shifter just blinks and won't engage in drive or reverse, it just feels like it stays in neutral. there are no transmission warning lights on the dash. I'm not sure where to start looking. has anyone else had this problem?
