Stop Start intermittement
Right so I've had my GC the car just over a month, its been in for a new inlet manifold last week and I also asked them to see why the stop start wasn't kicking in. The answer seemed to be that the fault with the swirl flaps was stopping the system. To this day I reckon its only kicked in a dozen times.
I realise that certain parameters need to be met before it will kick in but during a 200 mile journey with a couple of stops I'd expect the battery to be up to the required state of charge and the cabin to be at the correct temperature that the stop start would kick in but alas not. Does anyone else have similar experiences of the system if so how was it fixed. I realise that this may be a blessing but I'd prefer to make sure the underlying reason for it not working is fixed. |

In my 640d GC, the stop start does not work in Sport mode, or when the car is not sufficiently run (for example on shirt runs or on a cold day). Can't say I've missed it, honestly.

Yeah noticed that in any kind of Sport it doesn't function which is fine but this was in comfort and ECO. Turns out an AC part was stopping it from kicking in. I'm not a big fan of it but when my commute into Gaydon in a morning is very much stop start traffic it does help a bit on the fuel bill.

If you want to save on your fuel bill, I would suggest sticking it in EcoPro in stop start traffic. Keeping it in Sport is not helping. No small gains from Stop Start is going to recover the gearing penalty in Sport mode in urban/slow traffic.
This is the difference between 29mpg and 38mpg in real world driving. I don't bother. Always in sport and never used Stop-Start.
