Yeah, I’ve decided to skip the diffuser for the initial install. But thought the smaller piece would cover that hole. The second (smaller) piece mentioned in this thread is a piece that 640i already comes with. I will be returning that. Guys at the shop just put my old one back to the car.
So you also didn’t have that part covered initially? The m perf diffuser... do you have the part number? At this point I want to cover it with anything, but ideally with a diffuser (that i wanted to later, but wth) Sorry, I don’t know why i assumed now that you had a 650, probably because you didn’t mention any of the center piece dance |

Yeah, the reference you made earlier is incorrect - that piece is the piece that 640i already has. Thanks for the info on coupe/convertible!
Your is looking good! I will see if the shop got the right part on Thursday. If not, I will just order the big diffuser to complete that look And look like a ricer in the meantime, hee hee |

By the way .. did u get any drone ? I actually closed the one side (valve) but kind of missed the louder tone so I zip tied the valve open again ..I actually prefer both valves open now .. especially when driving on sport mode

I don't think we are speaking the same language here. PN 51127223162
(https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/51127223162/) is *NOT* the piece that covers that hole. 640i already comes with it from the factory (26 in the diagram). So what I need is either 27 or 22 from the diagram. https://dz310nzuyimx0.cloudfront.net...ed0464a793.png I only drove mine for couple miles today after the install (both valves closed) and did not notice any drone (but no highway driving yet). Like the slightly richer sound. I'll play with the valves later after I take care of the diffuser part, but I may keep the valves closed. Last edited by iamvanja; 11-06-2019 at 06:52 PM.. |

Ok, this is it. Except this is carbon which I don't care for.
https://www.ebay.com/i/153503871382 So a step in the right direction! EDIT: Hallelujah! For future reference if anyone is looking to do the same job, this is the correct part 51128050516: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...m/51128050516/ Last edited by iamvanja; 11-06-2019 at 06:52 PM.. |

OK, drove it for about 20-30 miles on freeways and streets today. With valves closed, the drone could be there, but it is so minimal that I have to concentrate to hear it and even then I am not sure if that is what I am hearing. Will definitely be opening up valves and be testing how that sounds!
Amazing surprise today when I parked. Decided to rev it a bit and between 1k and 2k on the way down, it produces all kinds of crackles! Unfortunately cannot be heard inside, but still... |

Will be playing with valves this weekend!
In the meantime, ordered this puppy! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fits-12-17-...F/183037749697 Don't care about carbon, but it seems that ALL of these diffusers are carbon. |

Got the center diffuser installed today!
Also, opened the valves this weekend. I can see why you were going back and forth. Love the cold start! 1.5k-2.5k drones quite a lot, but i can't say I hate it. Love the deep sound of it. Will try closing just one next weekend. I might end up installing electronic valves control that ideally will keep them always open at start and then i would close it for highway driving. |

Nice. Hey post a few pics .. I agree about the exhaust sound .. I went back to having both open after having the passenger side closed for a few weeks .. with my set up .I rarely get the drone at 2k rpm .. I basically drive it in sport mode and get minimum drone if any

I actually like it in comfort and think it sounds better than in sport (can hardly hear/feel the difference in sport compared to stock). Comfort might sound the best with only side open. Will close passenger side next weekend and see how that works 😎 |

I'm thinking of the same setup on my 2015 640i with the M Sport package. Mine don't have the right side flap system. How do you get around that with the quad rear look? Any help would be appreciated as I am a newb, but want the quad rear look and a more throatier sound.

Hi
Apologies if this has been covered before, but ive done a search and cant find anything for the 640D?. i am looking at doing something similar on my 2017 640D. I dont want to change the exhaust just the tips and cant figure out if i need 'Y' or 'H' shape twin tips?. The diffuser will obviously be swapped to one that can accommodate the quad tip set up.
