650i with Msport package 2016 Shaking
I have a relatively new 650 convertible with the M package. Since taking ownership I have had a shaking when the car is accelerating when going over 60mph. You can really feel it on cruise control every time it accelerates going up an incline. My techs at my dealership both felt this vibration. They called in the BMW rep and after test driving he commented that it drives the way it was designed. I sincerely doubt that BMW designed a car to shake. I contacted corporate customer service and they were no help. He basically said there is nothing he can do. Is there anyone out there that has had this same problem. My techs told me that they have had 7 series and X6's come in with the same problem when they have the M sport package installed. I thought I was getting an upgrade when I got the M package but obviously they have not perfected it.

Msport has nothing to do with this. There's only 2 things that can be wrong here. Either your wheel/wheels are warped or your tires arent high speed balanced. Sometimes your tires have imperfections as well. You usually see this in cheap Chinese tires where it's impossible to get a perfect balance. Is your car new or preowned/CPO? I would head to the dealer and have them road force balanced and check each wheel/rim for imperfections. Ask them to try to get each wheel as close to 10lbs of force as possible. Vibrations are not normal on a new car and then telling you this is just BS. Worst case, if they refuse to help, take your car to a reputable high performance shop that specializes in track cars for balancing.

Also you might ask them to check the rotors and pads.
Bent rotors can cause the same effect of bent rims with that shaking/vibration.

It's definitely not normal. Yours must be something related to suspension...

Go to another dealership or call BMWNA and submit the complain. They will help you out

I'd like to know if anyone has had any success in solving this.
My 2017 650i xdrive Gran Coupe M Sport (5000 miles) shakes between 1500-1900 rpm with light to moderate throttle. Especially noticeable when climbing hills on interstates. If using the cruise control, a manual downshift (raising rpm above 2000) immediately stops the shake, which returns as soon as the transmission upshifts. I can duplicate this behavior in any of the top 4 gears. I'm not sure if it happens in the lower gears because I can't find a hill that would allow me to stay in the problem rpm range. My dealer has force balanced all 4 wheels, checked alignment and replaced the transfer case with no change in behavior. Most recently, they have given me a new loaner that is, except for color, identical to my car which exhibits the same unacceptable behavior. BMW tells the dealer that they have had similar complaints but have no solution. Has anyone else experienced this behavior? How about anyone with a 2 wheel drive 650i? Any ideas on how to correct this? |

Sport mode does not change the shaking.
By selecting gears manually, I can cause the shaking at different speeds, but always between about 1500-1900 rpm. Car has been at dealer for a few days. The owner of the dealership has taken it home and duplicated the behavior. Ha agrees that something is wrong and will take it up directly with BMW management/engineering. Meanwhile, the dealer has provided a loaner 650i identical to mine save colors. The dealer has saved my trade-in just in case the problem remains unresolved and we need to reverse the transaction. |

I really love this car and am willing to be patient, but I sure hope they solve it soon. Meanwhile the M4 I traded is being held at the dealer for me if I want it back. |

Depending on how long you've had the vibration and how severe it's been, there's no telling what trouble might be stored up for the future. If it's crankshaft or torque converter related there might be secondary damage to main and rod journal bearings and/or gearbox. |

Not sure if it's the same vibration but I've always had this buzz kind of vibration when accelerating hard (usually at high RPMs); I feel the vibration in the seat. The dealer has replaced engine mounts but the problem still persists. It's a 2014 650i (non-M) n63tu engine.

From what I have learned so far, the problem is limited to 650i Gran Coupe with x-drive and apparently they all have this "feature", which may be limited to M Sport Package cars. The torque converter is the primary source of the problem. I'm told that eliminating the problem could significantly shorten the life of the transmission. Currently trying to see if Dinan or BMW performance mods would have any affect - doubtful. I'm very fortunate that my dealer is most anxious to make me happy and keep me as a BMW owner (we've bought 4 from them in the last 5 years). They have a very slightly used 2016 M5 in the showroom that I think might make me very happy.
We should have a resolution within a week. Last edited by Beezer1; 02-18-2017 at 06:36 AM.. Reason: Add data |

wow. thanks. how unfortunate that this problem is pervasive across the 650 line. it makes me want to go the 640 route, but i found the i6 fairly noisy. ugh. no perfect car i realise. maybe m6 is the way to go ,,,
