The technology and the options of the 6GC are superior by far
The only real minus of this car is the weight!

Any F01, F02, F10, F12, F13, or F06 with xDrive gets a hydraulic steering rack while the i variants receive EPS. Car and Driver did a pretty interesting test using a 528i and a 535 xDrive to see how the two compared. Heres the link:http://www.caranddriver.com/features...n-test-feature. From my experience, the hydraulic steering on a 535 xDrive I drove for a couple weeks felt better than the steering of a 640i GC i drove for a couple weeks as well. However, the 640i with the EPS had parking assistant, which was actually awesome, while the xDrive models don't have it because of the hydraulic steering.

IAS is also only available on non xdrive cars which I actually really like on my GC.

The quality may be different (rusty seats), but sitting in a F30, the feeling is still the same - it still feels planted and firm.

And the 6-Series is "decent"? The interior is the best in the class and I give it the nod because that interior isn't found in any of BMW's models vs. the Audi and Mercedes which has the same/very similar layout found in their other cars.

And I really don't have a problem with the weight of the 6-Series. Personally, I look at the car and it's purpose. For a GT, not going to really drive this outside of curvy roads so the weight isn't going to play a huge difference.

Given the price of the 650 GC, I just wonder what the sticker price will be for the new 7 ...

A $20-$30K premium for the car reviewed in the comparison is more than enough to kill the value proposition. At that difference in price, one would only buy the BMW if that's just what one wanted to have. That said, the 640i is quite comparable in price to the other two cars, and for me, the 640i is enough.

One thing I like better about the BMW is that it can be aesthetically configured the way one wants it. There are far more offerings as go color combos. That is a trait BMW has across all its models and something that distinguishes it from nearly every car maker except the very high-end ones. Moreover, as I age, I care less and less about whether the BMW has the fastest car or the fastest cornering speeds, etc. I do care that I can get a car that looks like I want it to re: interior and exterior colors combos.

$115,000 will get you a 550hp/590tq CLS 63 Performance Pack... Good job BMW. The 6 GC is way too expensive - this 650i is even more than a loaded M5.

Oh well, doesn't matter what I think, they'll still sell.

It would be odd if it wasn't more expensive than an m5. A 550xi is more expensive than an m3 too.

True, but the M5 has usable back seats. I'm 5'9" and snug is an understatement sitting in the back of 640i GC. The CLS is slightly bigger back there and the Panamera - by far - has the most interior space. I understand the market for sleek sedans, but the GC isn't very practical.

I could never justify spending $115k for 400hp. Anything north of $90k should have at least 500hp in my mind.

Interior of the S7 is Money!

I've owned an '10 S5 last year...Man was the interior beautiful

I don't think I sound bias as i can see most of the early comments agree...$30K cheaper (comparison test) and the S7 is faster, more efficient, bigger trunk, great on corners (if needed). No brainier IMHO.

Look at this GORGEOUS diamond stitched interior complimented with Carbon Fiber trim all the way to the back seat.

1. S7
2. 6 Series Gran Coupe
3. CLS550 (My God the Interior and Rear Tail lights are so ugly)

I can understand that, I really didn't even look at the horsepower before buying the GC , it was all based on looks and luxury.

I have a 650i and drive 95% of the time in comfort+ mode, my whole life I have complained about people buying the bigger engines and driving them slow, and now I am one of those people.

They always under rate their numbers. Theyre more on the conservative side.

In terms of "road presence" the GC stays near Panamera, CLS and A7 are a class lower

I haven't read the article yet, but if you look at the numbers on the first page of this thread. The base price is $10,000-$15,000 more on the GC. Not sure why the GC they tested is $24,000 more than base compared to about $5500 above base for the others.

The GC they tested is pretty loaded, while the Mercedes must not have much options at all on it.

Go try and build a S7 on audiusa.com you'll see the car tested here is loaded for the price you see of roughly $85-87k
