I'm using the OEM 20inch wheels for my winter set-up, and I've order a set of DUNLOP SP WINTER SPORT 3D (265/35/R20 ).

Purchased the factory 19 inch snow package for around 3100. Solid package nice wheels. Btw the front and rear wheels are different with different offsets.

Noushy, can you kindly provide the wheel style and exact size and make of the tires. I have spoken to 2 different dealers and received 2 different proposals. I'd appreciate it.

They are factory wheels style 408 (19 inch) here is a link. Front and rear have different offsets. Also comes style 409 (20 inch) for cars with ceramic brakes.

There is a similar thread on the M5 site. There are alot of considerations and risks if you do not go OEM. I find the OEM route a bit salty for my taste(I know, then what am I doing with an M6...). I just called Tire Rack and they still have not gotten a hold of an M6 to set up. I am in a quandry between seriously buying an older (semi beat up)Ford F150 4X4 or the tire set up.

My winters here in south central Pennsyltucky (my apologies to KY) are unpredictable. I do have a 4Runner for my girlfriend but for some reason she does not like the idea of me using it as a backup vehicle (maybe some issues there).

I am very curious to see what you all come up with options. According to the Farmer's Almanac (which has been shown to be a better predictor than the the NWS) this winter is going to be a bad one for this area.

I called BMW corporate for what they recommend. Ive ordered their package of wheels and tires. It is about $3500 all in. If anyone wants the part numbers let me know but any competent parts dept guy can look up the package.

My dealer took good care of me and I paid $3100 out the door with a discount and a $200 coupon for buying accessories.

I like having two setups in general. The current setup is short on useable mileage. My winters are long enough to warrant the second setup. That balances out the mileage issue. $3500 is beginning to look sensible.

Pulled the trigger on the package. Unfortunately, dealer unable to give me your spectacular deals. Also have to wait for the wheels to come in from Deutschland. That is about two weeks. I am getting the products at their cost plus $100. I am using Bridgestone Blizzaks LM-60s because they are unbeatable in the snow and relatively affordable. I also like the 19" wheels (408 with front/rear offsets difference, important) along with the 255/40. Thinner tire, better in snow. With 20" they would be snowplows. These are bad enough. However, if little to no snow the 20" would be preferrable for the looks and performance. I do not have that luxury and also have to drive through two very steep valleys every day. Gets tricky. I am also commandeering my girlfriends 4-runner if necessary no matter how much she complains.

Awesome. Finally, relief.

They are cheaper as a complete package with tires already mounted. When I ordered mine there were 52 sets available. Buying wheels individually added about $700 to final cost and all the available wheels were in Germany

That is the exact difference. What brand tires come with your package? Where are the packages from, company, stateside v germany? Did you do the ordering or your dealer. Any further input would be appreciated. $700 is quite some coin.

The wheel sets are backordered by four weeks.

They use Pirellis which do not have a tire to handle my level of snow. Besides, I have had very bad experience with Pirelli in the past.

By assembling, I get the wheels earlier and the ones I want, Blizzak LM60. Arguably, they do not have the performance level of the Pirellis but I cannot remember when I have ever gone over 130mph in the winter. I need snow performance over road performance in my area. In the end, a set of 4/ 408s, 2 front, 2 rear with offsets, 4 LM60, monitors, mount, wheel balance, pickup and delivery over one hour away to/from my office with loaner. Separate delivery of tires directly to my home-$3600 or priceless!

Sometimes, customer service counts too. I am pleased.

I ordered mine directly from the dealer, they come with Pirelli Sotto Zeros I think. They were all available from the US warehouse when I ordered mine. I was told they sell out quickly and to pull the trigger right away which I did. There were multiples more listed in the Germany warehouse but that usually takes a few weeks to trickle in to the US. Any other questions please feel free to message me and I will do my best. Mine are still at the dealership and I will probably put them on soon.

I ordered mine from the dealer also. They absorbed a lot of the cost. The sotto zeros are good tires with v speed ratings. Unfortunately, they would not be much use in snow (despite what they claim). I would clearly like the V rating but I can settle for the H. Thanks for your help. I greatly appreciate it. My dealer did eventually find the packages. However, they would not had I not mentioned. I have the LM60s on my X5 and they are great snow tires, quiet, pleasant with good handling. The Pirellis are sportier but who cares these are SNOW tires after all so be happy.
