It keeps you always wanting the latest/greatest. Trust me, when I found out my 2006 550 with all the upgrades was only going to be an 8 month run before the NEW 2007 came out, I was not happy. But it made me WANT the newer car.

gehmjc21 - I know - that sucks. You still have an incredible car and will have an incredible trip.

So let me get this straight you are mad because a company is constantly trying to improve rather then stay stagnant.

I never understand when people buy cars to keep up with joneses or to prove I have the latest and greatest and you do not...ha.. ha.. haha... ha.

All cars go through life cycle changes to keep the sales going and interest spiked. I would be more upset if a company sat idled and did not improve their products. Heck I wish the M3 engine had a power bump because with time it was being out classed by its rivals. Where 414hp was sufficient at one time now at least 450hp is required on paper for equal comparison. At least BMW M did not sit on their behinds and did give a useful comp. pkg to keep the car more competitive.

Now if you are one of those that has to have the latest and greatest at all time. Then you know the saying......"you gotta pay to play"

On the other hand I am secure in what I bought and it does not make me feel bad that I do not have the latest and greatest. Because when I bought the car at that time those were the options and gizmos that I liked and were sufficient for me. Just cause some thing new came along it does not mean my thing is trash....it still satisfies my needs more then enough......all the while I can appreciate the improvement in new product.

My 745i was old news compare to 750i ditto for my 545i vs 550i or 335i vs 335is. However, I am happy in what I have until I decide to move on. Be content pal and not stress over every little change. Because girls and cars both lose lust factor with each passing year....however lust is replaced with love and respect (:

Must suck for some of you especially with this relatively large bump for the 650i, heck its half an engine grade of performance.
The regular 5 doesn't get it because its still too new, they don't need it yet to keep up the sales. Which begs why the 6 and 6GC, I guess its because of their premium pricing, and vs. competitors etc.
On the other side, the 1st year F10 528 got the N52/3 engine with 258hp which is the same as the 530 now, same torque and only 14hp less. Price was also lower.

Don't mean to interrupt the loathing, but I had no idea Imola Red was available on the 2012 6 series. I thought it was new. Was that there from SOP last year?

Sometimes is better to wait a little bit if you know some important updates may occur
Other than that either model is very good!

I am sure you are not the only one annoyed by this phenomenon. However, I don't think you will escape it by choosing a different brand of vehicle. So perhaps is is best to just accept it as the price of doing business and try to enjoy the car you have. Just my thoughts.
I completely understand what you are saying. In the same breathe as my earlier rant, and as you stated, competitors would blow past BMW if they didnt make these changes. But come on..The 6er is a new born on the dealership lots and is already getting changes?? It's something that will never change, no matter how much we bitch and complain.. but perhaps just making these cars the most powerful, and the most advanced from the get go, by a larger margin then their competitors. I still have lots of love for BMW, and plan on buying another one when the time presents itself. Will it be new, so I can take a huge depreciation hit after 4 months when the "+8 hp" model comes out? no chance in hell

I just did a write up on my blog about the 2012 v. 2013 6er topic. Let me know what you think (I started another thread on the 6er page to further discuss what I wrote).

WOW>>>>>>> Your blog is incredible man! I couldn't stop reading it.

I ordered my Alpine White/Ivory/Fine Line Oak 650i M-Sport this past Saturday. I didn't get the B&O, didn't feel it was worth it. I got M-Sport, Adaptive Drive, Exec Pack and LED Lights. It came out a lil cheaper than a 2012 model with the same equipment. The 2013 Exec pack is a really good value coming from BMW. Salesman says 6-8 weeks now. I hate waiting. Can't wait to feel the upgraded power as the 2012 model felt powerful enough for me on the many test drives I took.

One question though, why xdrive if you're in Alabama?

I'm not sure it's evolving as much as it's optimizing profit. Looks to me like they are using the Bill Gates/Microsoft method to riches. Create something great but only give out some of i every year, forcing people to upgrade.
Hey, it works for Microsoft.

The new N63tu-powered 7 Series acceleration times have also been bolstered by the addition of the 8 speed auto where previously it had used the older 6 speed.

I would guess similar acceleration times for a F12 and F02 with the same engine and transmission due to similar weights.
