Help - 102902 Air volume 2, plausibility: Air volume too low
Not sure how to start this but maybe some one had the same issue could help.
To explain the situation, two nights ago while driving I hit the throttle up to 50% and heard something pop from the engine bay. 1 min later I got this code "102902 Air volume 2, plausibility: Air volume too low" So far I have replaced my charge pipes, switched HFM between banks and replaced the silicone coupling between TB and Intake. Symptoms: Car is hesitant and feel like misfiring, once both HFM disconnected car feels much better. Your support is highly appreciated. |

What happens when you go wide open throttle ?
Does it go into limp mode ?

I would get a check engine light , I would clear it with a JB4 and then it seemed to be ok , but if I would go into boost I would get a check engine light again and the car would go into limp mode , I split the drivers side intake manifold , engine has to come down to fix this to change the intake manifold

That sounds expensive lol. So far none of that happened yet. Did the smoke test, no smoke showed up from anywhere. Opened the meth port in the charge cooler and smoke was flowing, so I actuated the TB to keep the smoke moving down the manifold intake
My last theory is the clamp between turbo and DP snapped or cover valve. |

Decided to make a log and it looks weird. negative boost at DME2 is higher that DME1, during WOT DME 2 is not achieving the requested boost yet no limp or code or anything! after throttle closure pre-boost is achieved. I would appreciate any suggestion at this point lol.

Im just guessing here but maybe it can be one of your pressure sensors map sensors ? Its the sensor on each side of the intercooler and they read the boost pressure from each side,
Because in one of your logs I see 13.8psi from one turbo and 7psi from the other thats way off , but on another log you have a 21.9psi and a 19.7 that is much closer to the target,2psi off from one another is basically normal in some cases, it happens to mine sometimes there perfect sometimes or can be off 1 or 2 lbs ,it seems to sporadic to have something popped off how is the car running now?,how is the idle? whats your afr at idle ?and how does it feel when you accelerate hard ?

Have you checked the airbox right before the turbo? There is a gasket that slides into in the turbo that may have failed. But I wonder if your pop was actually the intake manifold. The air box is not pressurized but could be broken. Thankful the intake track is small on this car

I replaced them last year when I installed my PG charge coolers. I also still have doubts its the intake manifold as my max boost is 22psi and I wasn't even full throttle when it happen say around 12 PSI but when I looked at the end of the data log when throttle is closed I am at 19 psi which seems like an issue after the throttle body. After the throttle body there are 3 things that might cause it, stuck valve(no vacuum at the exhaust so its fine), broken fuel tank vent pipe leaking air and finally blown intake manifold gasket. If all of that is fine I will get a camera through the O2 sensor to check the exhaust turbine Will keep testing and update you guys. |

So I checked the exhaust side of the turbo and it looked fine to me, VANOS reading is the same on both banks. Now its time to assume that the PVC system is gone (the one under the valve cover)

You could also spray some starter fluid in the suspect area on the intake side. If you are getting pirated air in the intake you'll hear the engine rev up as the starter fluid spray will burn with the air and fuel.
Use it sparingly though as it combustible.
