CLS vs 6 series?

I am not a troll

I am just curious how BMW justifies the huge price difference of a 650xi and a CLS550 4 matic?

you can get a CLS550 4matic (thats actually a $2500 option) pretty much fully loaded for $80K and a similar 650xi would cost $95K. I am assuming the new gran coupe will cost the same or even more than the 650xi.

performance wise the CLS550 outperforms the 650 too (CLS does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds!). I am curious what owners think and if you have driven both, I am considering one of these for my next car if the M3/4 gets too close in price to them.

4.2 or 4.7 - either beats the 650i's 4.9

You should poise this question to Audi, on how they can charge 80k + for an A7 with a 6 cylinder (albeit turbo) engine. The A7 is the more appropriate vehicle for comparison.

The 6 series is not exactly the same class. I'm not being a brand snob here just stating the true marketing demographic.

BMW moved the 6 series upclass, so you will have to compare it to the CL class for the 2door comparison. However, with the new 6er Gran Coupe, which is the 4 door that aligns with the coupelike sedan style of the CLS, again you cannot compare as MB does not have a comparable model, the competion would be the Panamera (in BMWs mind). The price of the GC will again be more that even the normal 6 series as its again larger and wider, very close to a 7er.

You will have to wait for the 4 series Gran Coupe to come out to have a comparable car to the CLS in terms of price and size

I have to agree. I think the 650i(xdrive) is more comparable to the CL550 and with that being the case the 650ix handles better and cost less than the CL....

I would actually like to see a full on comparison between the 2012 BMW 650ix, 2012 Mercedes CL550 & 2012 Bentley Continental GT v8. Even though there is a large disparity in price, they all are awd, v8, twin turbo, 2+2, two door couples....

4.9 is not real world results, its factory estimates, C&D tested the 650i and came up with 4.5 sec which is in the ball park with the CLS. I test drove the CLS its a rocket for sure in straight line driving but lacked in the handling dept and the brakes don't even compare to the 650i. The Gran Coupe is going to clean its clock for sure, much better looking exterior design and knowing BMW the driving dynamics will trounce it for sure.

The new 650 GC will have more power than the current 6, so it will be faster.
As per the price...it's clearly around the 6 Coupe price, because it's related to it in terms of looks and engineering.

Are you serious? the 5's competes against the E class, and the 6's are based off the 5's, CL's based off S class, not the same league

Yes, I am serious. That's why I wrote it. I'm not cross shopping an e class coupe with the 650i xdrive. However, I was cross shopping the CL550 against the 650i xdrive and I'm here to tell you, the e class coupe is definitely not in the same league as the F13 650i.....
