Us Coupe Owners SOL
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com BMW has decide to "move up" the "release date" of its 6 series coupes to ... are you ready? 1 October. [Think we should tell them the 6 verts have been running the roads for weeks?] So very, very pissed. This is a production car, not a handmade Italian super car. I have waited for this car for SEASONS. As excited I am about this beautiful new car, I am thinking about canceling. My cars don't spend this many nights out of doors in years of ownership. What I really think is a great idea is making faithful customers wait months for their cars, building them, shipping them to near them, and then looking them up in the salt air for weeks. It's not just paint in salt air, it's aluminum bits, and hey, suspension bits and the electricals, too! In vehicles loaded with all sorts of whiz bang technology, let's park these cars in the one environment known to corrode aluminum body parts, mechanical and electrical connections, chew on paint, and computers and computer controlled bits and pieces for a month, and see if anyone notices... The good news? The double-secret, don't even tell the dealers "Release date" was 15 OCTOBER!!! They really ought to tell dealers that they are going to jerk their customers around like this before they take orders for the car. "Otto! Turn off the order taker on 6 coupes! We are going to make them wait, even to take orders, to make the wait even longer!!"

I agree. I heard the same thing this morning. My car lands Friday. My dealer was also PO'd. His argument was the same as yours about the Vert's on the street. What's the difference other than a hard top and of course the M Sport Package.
It makes no sense to me and I surely don't want my car sitting in a corrosive atmosphere. |

I am pissed. This should have been told us.
Too artificially make the faithful wait unnecessarily is the behavior of companies who ignore their customers. I have fancy wax purchased, trips planned. Quite a bummer.

That is a bummer. That is quite a while to wait from time of order to the car's release.
Hope you guys get your coupes soon.

I don't know if it is of any comfort to you guys, but here are my personal experiences around delivery of the F12:
The paint was protected until the day before the DAY. They also stored the car indoors from shipping to delivery (may be due to poor weather?). Anyway it was definitely worth waiting for As for the coupe, it is introduced here in Oslo to good customers september 6 with official introduction a few days later. If you are like me, you will find yourselves getting out in the garage during night only to take one more look at those great wheels, the perfect curved interior or just enjoy the shape of the car

October delivery?
When was this communicated, and to whom? My dealer even took my trade in already, and sold it. I am certain he is telling me the truth and did not know. As recently as a week ago was discussing with me closing the deal in August or September, depending on how his numbers for August look. See post above--why would Norway be earlier? Does Austria have to wait until October? Why delay delivery? I confess I don't understand what is to be gained.

Bizarre. I was really fearing something like this when the vert came out because I couldn't find anything in regards to a launch date. I can't understand why the coupe would be different. And why different launch dates in Europe? Could this be an EPA/emissions thing?
I don't know if you followed the M3 when it launched, but they got hosed because of some parts shortage. The cars were built and shipped but had to wait at port for something to be installed. If you look it up, there was a big thread on it. I read it when I was waiting for my vert and researching what all could go wrong before delivery. |

Beats me. I expected to be driving my car this week.
Some have said they knew this all along. Others who have ordered coupes from other dealers reported hearing from their dealers today, and were just as surprised as I was. Hell, I even have new wax sitting here ready to be applied...

Be careful with waxing for the first weeks. I did a professional wax and sealing treatment (like ditecauto.com or others) after 2 months. After that it is a sheer plesure to wax the car yourself once a year.

Mine's in a Georgia port waiting for the rest of the coupes to get ok'd transport to dealers. The delay from Georgia to NC is about a "release date" that I only heard of when I thought dealer was calling to tell me to pick my car up.
If you get your car next week, would you please let me know? BMWNA is telling my dealer no coupes released until 1 October...thanks. Enjoy your new car.

I had some real fun today, but my salesman nearly needed CPR:
I told him that I had just spoken to my bank and the 'release date' on my funds had been pushed back till 1 November...once he got that it was a joke, he laughed but he didn't think it was very funny until then. This is such utter baloney. And so poorly communicated. Theories are coming out of the woodwork. > They want to wait until some great wine is released so to gift all the new buyers with a bottle of wine. > This is like April Fool's jokes and we are going to get them when the dealers predicted arrival, 1-2 September. Ha. Ha-ha-ha. Better hurry on this one. > Some of the BMW marketers made a bet to see how many buyers, who have stepped up with their money for a car sight unseen, will get jerked around like this and ever buy a car from BMW again. > Because they can. > Something wrong with the car, and they are avoiding declaring an official US or worldwide recall by fixing them before they release them. > They felt bad about making convertible buyers ante up for the reflective road hazard triangles and they are going to give one away free to all coupe buyers. > They are going to drill holes in our engine blocks so we can have conventional engine oil dipsticks. > The BMW accountants found out about the reflective triangle thing and are taking it to senior management to decide, but they don't get back from vacation until the first of October. > It's a new BMW tradition. Coupe owners will be punished any time convertibles get away from those darned dealers before the 'release date'. > The Chinese asked them to. > BMW forgot to make coupes and they are waiting for the epoxy they painted on the cloth tops to get hard before they deliver them. > All part of a customer survey to see just how pissed off customers get before they walk on their deposits. > They forgot to do the tests on the new alloys in the convertibles, and the coupes have many of the same parts. A month in the salt air should provide the test results needed. > Management gets a big bonus if more units get delivered in October. Other posters have reported knowing this all along, but neither my dealer nor I heard anything of the sort until 30 August. Sorry you got bad news, too. Clearly more than just me and my dealer have been kept in the dark. I just don't think the other rumor is true though, that they're going retrieve all the convertibles the dealers accidentally delivered and take them back to the port of entry docks and make them sit still until October...maybe though, they are doing some strange stuff lately. So maybe. Just saying'.
