Not quite the same issue I have had now on at least 4 occasions, I have a Nov 2013 build 640d so iDrive 4.2.
My iDrive simply restarts, it's only happened when driving and I think my iPhone 5s was connected via the USB cable each time. The display goes blank the audio stops and after a few seconds the green bmw connected drive splash screen appears. My HUD and Multifunction display are not affected.
