I don't think electric is ready for prime time yet. It may become the standard someday, but is a few breakthroughs away. We tend to forget that most of the "clean" electricity in these new car batteries was generated using fairly dirty fuels.

Best trade offs today come from clean diesel.

Next gen fuel race is barely underway. Science will engineer new power sources and storage media. Hydrogen? New light battery (breakthrough)? Truly efficient new source, solar (breakthrough)?
