There are just a lot of Mercedes haters, or Lewis haters, or ex-Red Bull/Vettel fans, or Ferrari fans that just don't like who is running away with the championship. If you were a Lewis fan, I bet you wouldn't be fast forwarding.

You're way off-base on the Mercedes/Lewis haters thing. He's one of the most widely liked drivers ever. I like Lewis, but watching one team running away with every race is
boring. I was a fan of both Vettel and Schumi, yet in their dominant years I did a lot of fast-forwarding.
Also, I think that all teams let their 2 drivers compete with each other, until such time that it makes no sense from a team standpoint. Barrichello just never got that close to Schumi (points-wise) to risk the driver's championship. Same with Webbo and VET. HAM and ROS just happen to score pretty evenly.
